When capital is cheap and it’s a raging bull market, every investor looks a genius. Now is going to sort the best from the rest. Startups will be assessed more attentively as to their business prospects. Not just for their widget and functionality. Too many great “products”out there that will never make a business in such a challenging vertical like sport. No pricing power, long sales cycles, political organisations. Despite the perfect storm, there are still big opportunities in sport, as disruption is very very high. Loads of money to be made for investors. Need to know the industry with direct experience having being in those rooms, and need to know how to structure smart capital structures, that give you your downside protection. We enter the age of the sport “stop-loss” investor. Maybe also looking more for yield that a 10-bagger. That’s a big change. I welcome all this shake out. I really do. It’s been tough to watch these years of unqualified blowhards all looking good. Bayonet the wounded.
