It was yet another impactful experience yesterday as we gladly attended the last #Teach4SDGs training workshop. Our guest speaker was Madam Ruth Olowosile (Executive Dir. of 'The Sustainable Green Environment Initiative', Cofounder and Executive Dir. of SGI) She spoke on the topic: How To Design Climate Change and SDGs Program Curriculum for Schools and other Students. Key Takeaways includes but not limited to: 1. Integrate Climate Change and SDGs into existing curriculum 2. Use interactive and experiential learning methods 3. Focus on student-centered and inquiry-based learning 4. Emphasize critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration and Connect learning to real-world scenarios and applications 5. Encourage student-led initiatives and community engagement 6. Provide opportunities for reflection, self-assessment, and feedback Factors to consider while Designing Activities: 1. Align those activities with learning objectives and outcomes 2. Incorporate diverse perspectives and voices e.g inviting guest speakers to speak to the students. 3. Use storytelling and scenario-based learning 4. Encourage creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship 5. Foster partnerships and collaborations with external organizations Note: she emphasize that educators have to be cautious of their approach to teaching; being mindful of what they say and do. Being mindful of the age of their students and tailoring their teaching techniques to fit that age, not exposing them to thing beyond their understanding and need at the moment. And lots more.. 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽: 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗜𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗲-𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 1️⃣Initiation In the first phase of the mentoring relationship, it is important for the mentor and the mentee to clarify goals, objectives, process and the length of the engagement. It does not matter how the relationship was initiated (sponsored by the organization or initiated informally by both parties), it is key that these terms are discussed upfront. This gives the engagement a structure where both parties have a common understanding of mutual expectations, the plan of action and desired outcomes. 2️⃣Cultivation Guided by the objectives, the two parties work together to build the mentor mentee relationship. This is when most of the true mentoring takes place. 3️⃣Separation At this stage, the two parties decide to end the mentor-mentee relationship, for whatever reason. They could both agree, but this may not necessarily be the case. They could agree that the mentee has met the objectives set at the outset. The mentee may no longer need mentoring or the mentor may be unable to provide additional mentoring. 4️⃣Re-definition During the last stage of the mentorship, the two parties discuss the nature of their relationship moving forward. The relationship may take a peer-like or friendship aspect where sporadic informal contact and mutual support is encouraged, or it ends entirely. The more engaged a stakeholder is, the higher up the participation pyramid he or she will both be willing and expected to be in the process. 🟩Although stakeholders’ positions are not static and might change, particularly in longer engagements, understanding involvement is important for managing expectations. This is often done through iterative dialogue .
