How to make yourself "STAND-OUT" amongst 100+ applicants in 3 simple steps... 1️⃣ Reach out to the contact person listed on the job ad! - Not just to promote yourself (in a subtle way of course...), but to ask specific questions related to the role. Whether it's via a Linkedin message, email (with your CV) OR if there's a contact number on there... CALL! * "Hi! My name is x and I am reaching out regarding your job ad for x y z. Have I caught you at a good time? This job sounds amazing / this is the best job ad I have ever read. Just a couple of quick questions for you if that's alright?" 2️⃣ Tailor your CV - seems like an effort right? But I'm telling you it's worth it! As a recruiter, it is so easy to spot generic applications that are spamming "easy-apply" on every job ad they see. And PLEASE please please cut your CV from a 7-14 page document and chop it down to a lovely, easy-to-read 1-3 page doc MAX. 3️⃣ Provide a portfolio or any related work samples - Yes.... 'related' work samples only! It's one thing to write that you have the skills, but it’s another to actually show them. Whether it’s a case study, design work or project results, providing tangible proof of your capabilities WILL MAKE YOU STAND OUT! You've got to think... with hundreds of applications, how thoroughly are hiring managers really reading each and every CV? The answer: not very. In fact, they likely spend around 10-15 seconds skimming each CV. Be persistent and keep pushing forward!

Reasons why you can’t rely only on online job applications: -they may have an internal candidate -there may be someone already in final rounds -you may be misinterpreting the job description or leveling -your resume may make you dinged if not optimized, even if you’re qualified Only a human can truly tell you: - where they stand in the hiring process - what they’re looking for - what the JD really means - what the role title / leveling really means - where the team stands - how you and your profile stacks up and what to work on to improve your candidacy What else am I missing?!
