Bringing people together to solve transformational challenges. CEO @ SimplyDo. #technology #innovation #improvement #change
Thanks to Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) for inviting me to the roundtable with Jeremy Miles, Cabinet Secretary. It's great to be part of the conversation around innovation, skills and business support in Wales. Plus good to see some familiar faces! In my view, industry (including small businesses) must continue to be involved in the co-creation of public funded innovation and business support programmes. The mantra has to be "done with" and not "done to". However, this absolutely doesn't mean more lengthy consultation surveys or events that no small business has capacity to engage with. Then an "oh well, we did ask"! Ask the right question, in the right way, at the right time and you get the right answer. #allaboutempathy You can find out more about Jeremy's pretty lengthy responsibilities list here: https://lnkd.in/guctgbAR
I agree with you Lee - genuinely innovative business support has to be incredibly flexible. As you know more than most, small companies often have a real difference of opinion about the best way to scale their businesses. Whomever provides the public sector support has to be experienced enough to provide a creative and flexible approach that is empathetic in the way you imply. It seems to me that the key is to understand what innovation means in the context of a particular organisation, and then create an environment that encourages different approaches and risk-taking. As we've talked about many times, this diversity of thought is crucial to creativity and generating fresh ideas / perspectives.

5moGood points well made Lee Sharma FRSA and Andrew Walker FRSA. There’s sometimes a bit of a fixation with processes and methods of management. So much so, that when we deliver support to companies and organisations, ‘creativity and innovation’ tends to get delivered in a ‘fits all’ manageable package. It’s usually technology biased and from an organisation perspective, delivery is designed to be both efficient and measurable. That can bring about the ‘done to’ that you mention Lee. There are much better ways in which innovation support can gain traction within all companies, a way in which it could and should be delivered for the benefit of the client…..and more importantly the clients customer. Possibly RSA Cymru ‘get together chat’ if there are more interested? P.S. I’ve been a Fellow since the mid 90’s. Maybe it’s time for me work out how put it after my name on LinkedIn ? 🤔
