A place where learning closely meets individual values; A warm community where we forgive and repair relationships if broken; A place where any mistake is just a new lesson added to a long string of experiences; A place where only time travel is impossible - at least until we find out it isn't; A place where diversity doesn't divide us but unites us; A place where each of us can be unique, where we are all authentic in being different; A place where we learn not only formulas or facts but many interesting things about the world around us and how we can live a happy and fulfilling life. Our boy's 8-17 Summer Success Camp is scheduled from June 28th to July 27th this year. Are you one of those parents who sigh with relief when your child or adolescent leaves for your typical summer camp? Do you wait with trepidation for the day your child returns home, knowing he or she will bring chaos back into the household? Do you hope against hope that your child will return with a better, more positive attitude?   If you answered yes to any of these questions, your child might greatly benefit from a Behavior Summer Program as an alternative to traditional summer camp. We emphasize responsibility, self-examination, and the learning of positive skills to help a troubled or behaviorally challenged child better perform in school and with peers and family members. Positive peer pressure replaces the negative pressure children experience at school. The structured, highly supervised environment enables children to safely explore their issues, build self-confidence and reach their potential to become leaders. All roads in life converge at one important point. In my son’s previous school, the children were taught to weigh every decision or action against the ‘Big 4’, before making or taking it. The Big 4 were questions they were to ask themselves quietly: - Is my action Fair? - Is it Kind? - Is it Safe? - Is it Respectful? Once they got through this list, the decision or action could be carried out or rejected. It was a simple way to make children pause, think and then act; all, according to their own free will, without anyone except their own inner voice guiding them. It worked beautifully! This playground ethic carries over to other places and situations and is as relevant for us adults as it is for primary school children. What if we too give the ‘Big 4’ a quick thought before any important decision or action, especially those which involve the ones around us? They say values are like fingerprints - every individual has unique ones but every individual also leaves a print of them wherever he or she goes. I say let’s be children again. Let’s give the Big 4 a chance! All roads in life converge at one important point.
