Genesis Be once said in a Q&A for Moral Courage "Every person I meet today is worthy of dignity" Isn't it wonderful to bask in the warmth of someone else's human-ness? I have so much admiration for artists and poets like Genesis, Sonya Renee Taylor and Ethel Cain who talk about the need for people to be complex and have radical self-compassion in order to make lasting change in the world. After you've watched the episode linked in the original post, I wanted to share some additional resources which I feel compliment this episode of The Dilemma: In an Artist Decoded interview, Hayden Silas Anhedonia also known as Ethel Cain breaks down her music and who the character "Ethel Cain" is. The introduction/teaser for the full interview is the main reason I draw the connection to this episode of The Dilemma. "Instead of one person trying to carry the weight of the world, we're just helping our neighbors... and if everyone does that it radiates out and suddenly you find it's a network" https://lnkd.in/ge9PQbNz Reading Sonya Renee Taylor's The Body Is Not An Apology (the book, AND the poem) was an integral step in my journey of radical self-love. I couldn't help but think of Taylor's wise words when being introduced to the Moral Courage concept of Confident Humility. The lesson I take from Confident Humility and Radical Self Love, is striving not for perfection but understanding yourself as a beautifully flawed human being with room to learn and grow who deserves love in the midst of it all.
Episode 2 of "The Dilemma with Irshad Manji" is here! Question: Should antiracism activists use their limited energy to build trust with the other side? It could advance their cause. But bridge-builders will always be accused of weakness, stupidity, and betrayal by some in their own movements. What to do? And how? Genesis Be, advocate extraordinaire, helps Irshad resolve this dilemma. But is the in-studio audience convinced? Watch the 15-min episode: https://lnkd.in/ev2nk7QM Allison Gerrard Mihir Omar Awadh Michael Farber
