Happy International Women's Day!   I had the privilege of attending Athena STEM Women's event last night InnovateHER: Female Tech Leaders Crossing the Finish Line Powered by Intuit. We heard from 3 phenomenal women, Lena Hall, Heidi Yang, and Debbie Day, who inspired us with their interesting stories and invaluable advice.  Here are some of my takeaways:   1. Getting in good trouble is necessary. Encouraged by the late John Lewis, Lena pointed out that we need to embrace this concept and think outside of the box and challenge the status quo to create meaningful impact. 2. You can make a significant change without being loud.  Heidi's story reinforced this, serving as a reminder that we don't need to compromise our core selves. Quiet determination and thoughtful actions can also bring about substantial change. 3. Lead with authenticity, not fear. Using honesty, transparency, and one's values will encourage a leadership style that inspires trust and fosters a positive and inclusive work environment. When thinking back at the qualities of my previous bosses and mentors, I valued their authenticity over anything else. 4. Used correctly, AI will aid humans rather than replace them. Hearing Debbie say this out loud definitely brought a level of comfort to me on a topic that I am sure seems daunting to a lot of us. I look forward to learning more about how AI can aid in making me a better toxicologist. #InternationalWomensDay

Shattering the Glass Ceiling , a common phrase we've all heard, yet doesn't express fully the incredible advancements of women in today’s workforce. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Let's exclaim it clearly: Women aren't just shattering the ceiling—they are engineering remarkable buildings, leading billion-dollar organizations, fleshing out innovative pathways for human progress. They are driving awe-inspiring change and laying cornerstones in areas that, a generation ago, they had struggled to even glimpse. - Nurses becoming healthcare industry leaders. - Teachers rising to District Directors. - Scientists morphing into Nobel laureates. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Gender has no impact on capability—it never has. Women already understand this truth intuitively—they are living it daily on every sunshine-hued morning and underneath every moonlit night. Now, it's time for the rest of the world to recognize and embrace this reality: Women aren't just keeping pace—they are leading the way, creating significant ripples of change across sectors, industries and societies. - Reimagining FinTech platforms. - Forging ahead in AI and Robotics. - Catalyzing groundbreaking medical discoveries. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Yet still, there remains ground to cover—perspectives to shift and structures to remodel. Without introspection, we risk stagnating in our progress—resting contentedly on laurels that have yet to fully bloom. So, we must continue to scrutinise our assumptions, our practices and our biases, as our actions today convert into the foundations for future generations. - We must champion equal representation. - We must remove lingering barriers. - We must realise the mantra: progress is perpetual. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Like an unyielding river, the march of women towards unabridged leadership, innovation, and change will remain steady, influential, and unstoppable. The lioness does not seek approval. She roars in her own right. Ladies, continue to lead with your undeterred spirit and formidable strength. My career started working around strong female leaders at a young age, and I’m grateful for how they inspired me and how they each had their own style to learn from as I evolved. As I’ve moved into tech, it’s been interesting to see how the industry has evolved over the years to become a more welcoming place for women, however there is certainly still more to do. There is a crucial need for meaningful research and action in this space and I'm excited to share a new report created by AND Digital that delves into this topic in much more detail: "Rewards and Resilience". The report dives into the dual experience of women leaders in tech, surveying over 200 women leaders in tech roles to highlight the successes and challenges of being a leader in the industry.
