Happy Monday Friends! I haven’t posted in a while because honestly, I have been quietly plotting my next move. Like too many of us out there, I was impacted by a layoff in my last role. After countless coffees, meetings, interviews, consulting projects and networking with lovely people who totally dug what I brought to the table yet role/timing/values/etc. didn’t align, I got real with myself. I decided the next chapter MUST do 3 things (otherwise: keep on walkin’): Work stuff: leverage my strategic and creative expertise, expand my network and offer exposure to broader sectors of industry. People stuff: enable connections with dynamic, sharp, kind and genuine people from varied backgrounds whom I can learn from and have FUN with. Life stuff: offer a culture that embodies the values and boundaries I have around family and personal well being. (Probably the toughest ask of the three.) Enter Pinnacle Performance Group, where I recently joined as Director, Consulting + Client Services (check us out below!). Will it be uncomfortable to learn new significant areas of practice beyond retail / product design and development? Yes! (Still consulting there, too). Do I stand to massively stretch and grow? Hell yes! Does Pinnacle pass all my criteria and gut check? ✅ Here’s to everyone navigating change. The landscape looks very different than it did just a few short years ago and can leave you feeling vulnerable - despite how supported, successful or secure you may have felt in the past. I’ve learned that by staying true to YOU, leaning into your network and - most importantly- being open to walking through new doors, you may find really cool things on the other side. This week marks my 3rd anniversary at Avery Dennison, reflecting as I like to do each year, here are my top three learnings from last year. Growth Mindset in Action: A growth mindset isn’t just a concept—it’s an active practice. It’s not about the books we read; it’s about stepping outside our comfort zones. Imperfect keynotes, pitches, and presentations are growth opportunities. Embrace them, learn, and strive for continuous improvement. Be an Agent of Change: In large corporations, it’s easy to accept the status quo. But relevance and improvement demand questioning the process. Keep asking “why?” until clarity emerges. If change is needed, don’t hesitate—be the catalyst for positive transformation. Choose Your Circle: Surround yourself with greatness. Seek out individuals who embody the qualities you aspire to and absorb them. Diversity matters—learn from people at different stages of their careers. Sometimes, fearlessness comes from unexpected sources. Remember, each day is an opportunity to learn, grow, and make a difference. Here’s to many more impactful years ahead! For that, I am eternally grateful.

Leaders who have made a lasting impact on my life and career, Day 7. Today is all about Anna Leverentz. Anna, I was in a whole new place in my career. I had never worked in the Optical world before. As the Store Manager of Target Optical in Saint Louis Park you were the area Manager of Store Excellence and would visit my store among so many of the brand stores under EasilorLuxottica. I was anxiously awaiting my first visit from you going over store appearance and merchandising of my fashion wall displays of all the eyewear in the store. You came on your first visit and made me feel that I belonged right away. You complimented and thanked me for the things I was doing well out of the gate. But you also let me know the areas I could improve and what I was doing incorrectly in an encouraging and constructive way. You have such a way about you that you can make any colleague or customer instantly comfortable. You have an understanding of store operations that can sometimes be lost on someone no longer working in stores every day. You understand that the customer comes first and that can sometimes interrupt an operational project or derail a visit of yours while you and I end up customer servicing. Not only do you understand this, you are extremely good at it. You can spot someone's style very quickly and get them lined up to purchase their next frames in no time. I definitely learned a thing or two from your styling technique with customers. Something that sticks with me is when I was in the middle of hiring and my team was really just me, you once told me that I should be proud of my 90+% score when I didn't hit 100%. You said that in my current situation you would be more concerned if I had been 100% on back of house operations because that would mean I wasn't making myself available to help customers coming in the store. It's all of these things that command respect and captures the attention of those you speak to. Your wealth of knowledge and understanding makes you an incredible asset to everyone you work with. Thank you for being an incredible resource to your teams. Thank you for putting yourself in others places when assessing situations.
