As we head into the end of the week, I always think of the many cleaners that are either finishing the week or have cleans to be performed. And like Rosie in the video, the question I ask is - are the cleaners getting treated as they should be? Yes, the impression in the video is of a gig worker, and the first impression that comes to mind is an Uber driver, or maybe a DoorDash delivery person, but what if I told you that the Fair Work Commission changes, due August 26, 2024, class cleaners as gig workers in Australia. Why? Because most cleaners are underpaid, mistreated, and incorrectly classed as contractors (over 80% percent of the cleaning industry operates like this - Sham Contracting) when they actually employees. So I ask you, if your cleaners, like Rosie are trying to earn a living, but getting to some payment that equates to $7 per hour, do you think this is fair? There is a solution - for everyone to accept that all workers deserve to be paid correctly, even if this means that the cleaning costs will go up. And just like Rosie, when she sees an opportunity to get a well paid job, where she is treated well, we get cleaners approach us. Cleaners hear from their relatives, their friends, and our current cleaners about how we treat our team, and contact us, asking how do they get a job with us. And to you, what is the outcome? A cleaner that is so appreciative to have the job, so happy to at last be paid correctly, so happy to have the training and support, they do their ultimate best to deliver to you, our clients and us, the best standard they can. So as we all end a week, I ask for some thought to be given to the Gig workers - the ones that work the hours most of us don't like to even think about working, and ask are they being treated fairly?

Happy National Administrative Professionals' Day to all my fellow Admins out there! My first admin "job" was helping to fold and stuff envelopes for my Mom when I was about 12 years old. It meant a lot to me that she trusted me to help with these types of tasks, and it was one of many things that led to my wanting to be a helper no matter what field of work I pursued as a young adult. I am thankful that my parents raised my brother and I to be considerate, empathetic, and kind. This meant stacking our plates and cups at the end of the table when dining out, treating others with respect and acceptance, and to complete work with humility and a genuine desire to make a positive impact in the lives of others. Being an admin means that you often work in the background, setting up the people that you assist for success. This is not an easy task! You have to be able to adjust to different personality styles, foresee needs before they become apparent, be detail-oriented, organized, patient, efficient, trustworthy, have excellent communication skills, and when you are client-facing, you have to be a positive representation of the company or organization that you are employed by. I'm grateful that I knew from a young age that these skills would be part of what would make my life fulfilling. That being said, have I been all of these things in every role that I've had in my career? Absolutely not. What I have tried, sometimes better than others, is to approach my career and personal life with what Christians call a "servants heart." I've attempted to be someone who puts the needs of others before my own, not for my own personal gain but to make others feel supported and cared for. Now that I have three daughters of my own, these attributes are even more important to me. My hope is that they'll also want to be helpers, personally and professionally, as they journey through life. For now, this means that we stack our plates and cups at the end of the table when dining out, because every person has value, is deserving of help, and every little bit of help we put into this world makes it better.

A: I love the people I work with and the enormous amount of autonomy I’m granted. I know my boss has my back 100% which allows me to do my job with confidence. I work with a group of talented, caring and supportive individuals, who come from all walks of life and have varying degrees of experience - I have learned so much from all of them. Q: What is your favourite thing to do on the weekends? A: SLEEP!!! I’m kind of joking. If the weather is bad, I love to curl up on the couch and binge watch my favorite TV shows/movie series and/or read a good book. If the weather is nice and the sun is out, I need to be outside. I’m either hiking, camping, playing beach volleyball/softball or just straight up suntanning. Q: What career advice would you give to your younger self? A: Try to work and surround yourself with people whose values align with your own. Gain as much experience and absorb as much information as you can from every job. Street knowledge is just as important as book knowledge and can’t be taught in a classroom – it only comes with experience. Also, success isn’t just measured by a salary and a title; it’s measured by who you are as a person and how you treat others. Never forget who you are, where you came from and the strength it took to get where you’re at. Q: What is a recent book or movie you would recommend? A: Everything Everywhere All at Once – it’s not recently released but it’s a movie that I would highly recommend. It’s weird, funny, action packed, emotionally charged; it’s a beautifully written/acted story about love and family. #MeettheTeam #HungerfordProperties
