At Leprino, we believe that responsible climate action requires setting ambitious commitments and delivering measurable results. Recently, we committed to setting near-term emission reduction targets with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). These goals are aligned with the latest climate science from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). By committing to SBTi, Leprino agreed to take meaningful steps to reduce its GHG emissions. https://lnkd.in/gE5eT_B5

Here's to more positive conversations around the 👉vital👈 role the food system has in achieving climate targets.
“With 159 countries having signed the ‘Declaration on Sustainable Agriculture, Resilient Food Systems, and Climate Action’, there is now a firm world commitment that these areas are essential to achieving the long-term goals of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees by 2050.” Our head of Climate Change and Energy Policy, Emma Piercy is featured in the latest issue of Food Management Today, sharing her outlook on COP 28 and its pivotal part in creating a more sustainable food system. As we gear up for the 3 Rio Conventions—UNCBD COP16, UNFCCC COP29, and UNCCD COP16—it's crucial to accelerate action on food systems. All actors must work together to transform food systems to deliver better outcomes for people, nature, and climate. To keep up the momentum, we are calling on all food systems actors to endorse the Food Systems Call to Action. Hundreds of leaders have already signed, supporting a shared vision and priority actions and principles for urgent action. Sign the Call to Action by sharing details about your entity and submitting a Statement of Action—either now or within 6 months of endorsement. ✍️ Sign the Food Systems Call to Action: https://lnkd.in/eAMVj-3c 🌐 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/g8A3ucmk Let’s take action together for people, nature, and climate! #ActionOnFood #GoodFoodForAll #ClimateWeekNYC #AmbitionLoop High-Level Climate Champions Ambition Loop Meridian Institute

WPP, JBS, S&P Global all delisted ("commitment removed") by Science Based Targets initiative as they've not made any credible progress or set plans to hit their Net Zero pledge over the past 2 years. More to follow I think as commitments fail to turn into action. Commitments without substance just delay our collective efforts to maintain a livable environment. While some of the commitments are deceptive PR stunts, some are also statements made out of ignorance for just how complex decarbonising value chains really are. Hopefully the learning curve will be steep and plans will emerge rapidly (Though for JBS I'm not confident!) ZeroBees is here to help if you need help with credible plans and near-term actions. #actionnow #decarbonisation #stepup ZeroBees
The Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has identified several businesses failing to follow through on their commitment to set verified climate targets, including the world’s largest meat producer JBS. The initiative gives corporates two years to develop credible, approved climate targets after they signal their intention to do so publicly. https://lnkd.in/eVTTHamz #sbti #science #climate #targets #jbs #zerobees

Food has a BIG climate problem! What we eat and how we grow is responsible for over one-third of all greenhouse gas emissions when you factor in indirect emissions. For how to fix this crisis, check out this article from Project Drawdown's Jonathan Foley: http://bit.ly/3Wk6z3G

Can we tackle climate change by rethinking agriculture? Agriculture and land use account for approximately one third of global greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), which leads to global warming and climate change. So, what can we do? We can transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient future. Yet, the levels of funding to see results remain very high, and this is where the help of the private sector comes in. The growing alignment between public and private sectors on climate action is intensifying, as is the need to close the financing gap. In response, UNDP and FAO have made private sector engagement and multi-stakeholder collaboration central to the multi-country initiative, "Scaling up Climate Ambition in Land Use and Agriculture" (SCALA) through Nationally Determined Contribution and National Adaptation Plans. SCALA identifies pathways for implementing climate actions with the potential to trigger transformative systems change emphasising private sector engagement.
