Speakers for Schools, a social mobility charity founded by ITV's Political Editor Robert Peston, aims to bridge this gap. The charity connects students from state schools with influential figures and work experience programmes, offering them insights into careers they might never have considered. With more than 1,500 speakers including celebrity chefs like Tom Kerridge and Marcus Wareing, the programme helps young people navigate a rapidly evolving job market. The focus on practical work experience is particularly pertinent for the public catering sector. Schools, universities, hospitals, and other public institutions are constantly in need of well-trained, passionate individuals. By engaging with these programmes, catering businesses can ensure they cultivate and inspire future talent, providing essential skills and raising the industry's profile. The act of giving back is crucial in today's day and age of instant gratification. It allows us to think about and demonstrate our actions towards the welfare of others. As parents, we must encourage our children to embrace the idea of giving from an early age. The purest form of giving is when there is no expectation of any benefit in return; in fact, for many years, we have, through the Amaya Foundation, given anonymously. We have only had one ask from the beneficiaries, to give back and pay it forward as and when they can. If 4-H Canada is to survive it needs to improve it's value proposition, not rely on charity. Canada's ranchers require new skills and tools to address the challenges, and opportunity, presented by traceability, sustainability, and digital and genomics enabled solutions. Canada's youth, through 4-H, should be leading the acquisition of these skills and tools. This is the forgotten purpose of 4-H; engage agriculture's youth to acquire, and then extend to their families, the skills required to improve practice. At Flokk Systems Inc. we have been trying for years to engage others in this vision. We are prepared to provide the required technology at cost. What we lack is partners to provide the capital and 4-H resources. I will fully commit my company to supporting a 4-H Canada that enables Canada's rural youth to lead Canadian ranchers being global leaders in technology utilization and sustainability. I am not prepared to contribute anything to a 4-H Canada that, to my experience to date, is unwilling to engage with ideas or individuals outside their legacy communities and programming.
