Ever wonder what advice an attorney would give in preparing for childbirth? In my latest podcast I spoke with childbirth attorney Gina Mundy who has 20+ years of experience investigating and analyzing childbirth cases. We discussed important topics such as: What factors should be considered when choosing a doctor? Why do you need to know how to read the fetal monitor? Why is a support person so vital for your safety? Why is a birth plan important and what should be included? Check out this fascinating conversation at……Parenting in the First 3 Years https://lnkd.in/gz8kQKGS

Please see my thoughts below on the findings on consent published by Birth Trauma Association (UK) ⬇️ #maternalbirthtrauma #medicalnegligence
In a damning indictment of the current state of the UK's maternity care, a report published by the Birth Trauma Association (UK) in May this year cites thousands of women as having intrusive procedures during childbirth without their consent. Shivi Nathan explains more, here: https://lnkd.in/eAXSXzun #fieldfisher #medicalnegligence

Have you ever realised that the we are often “bound” by guidelines even if they make no sense, do not cater to individuals nor follow evidence based practice. It’s kinda terrifying when you think about it. “Oh that’s not allowed here - it’s against hospital policy”….. Since when is hospital policy an absolute rule that supersedes that of your bodily autonomy and informed choice? Since never actually. Hospital guidelines are overviews of best evidence to help navigate treatment for the masses (not as individuals) and reduce organisational risk (again not personal risk). Policies are guidelines. Not rules. So you are within your right to question these rules, ask questions and push the boundaries for your personal situation, your personal birth journey. Any good provider will happily have these discussions with you and provide all the evidence for every side and every choice and how these are specific to your situation, allowing you to make an informed choice. These choices then should be respected throughout birth regardless of healthcare professionals displeasure at being outside their comfort zones. Birthing outside guideline doesn’t automatically mean it’s dangerous. It usually means it’s researched, informed and personal. #thefitmidwife #midwife #labour #birth
