I never wanted to be in sales. In fact, for years I actively avoided it. Even when I was ‘selling’ comprehensive dental and orthodontic treatment cases, I refused to be labeled as ‘sales’. I was a ‘Treatment Coordinator’. During my jewelry side-hustle days, when I literally went into people’s homes to host parties in order to SELL my jewelry, I gave myself the title, ‘Jewelry Consultant’. {Insert rhetorical question} Why do we hate sales people so much?? When you think about it, we’re actually all in #sales. Every day we’re selling our productivity, likability, and capabilities. We are ‘selling’ our personal brand, our behaviour, intentions, and credibility. Whether with good intentions and authenticity, or not so much. And our colleagues and customers are either buying it, or not. What do you think?

The same is true of anything, and a salespersons job is to ensure their offer is perceived by the customer to be worth at least what they're paying for it or, even better, that they perceive it to be worth more. The cost is irrelevant. How much time and effort is spent on it is irrelevant. The salespersons perception of what it's worth is irrelevant. The only thing which is relevant is the customers perception of what it's worth to them. If salespeople find out a customers points of reference, and then do a great job of presenting their offer, they'll get less resistance and won't have to discount so often. To do that they need structure, skills and a personality that doesn't make people hate them. Focus on structure and skills for salespeople. Let's assume that ,20yrs old tom needs your product (Gucci designers shirt worth #50,000) to impress his girlfriend as per fair handsome average height guy that he his but he his not working or doesn't have any source of income and survives from his parents. Tom that is still doing handsome guy without money in his pocket your ideal customer? Certainly No,these are questions you should be asking yourself before selling to tom. Why are you selling tom your Gucci designers shirt when you know he can't afford it? For example I need yam to eat but I can't afford the yam are two different things entirely,need and affordability must work together otherwise sales cannot take place.
