🌟The Acivico Group Roadmap to Decarbonisation🌟 The UK government has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2035, with the ultimate goal of achieving a net zero economy by 2050. Decarbonising buildings is one of the biggest challenges the UK faces, requiring significant efforts across all sectors. Heating is a major source of emissions in the UK, accounting for 37% of the country's greenhouse gas emissions, making it a critical focus for decarbonisation efforts. While progress has been made toward meeting interim carbon budgets, much more remains to be done. The need for action is particularly urgent in schools, many of which are aging and have inefficient, wasteful heating systems that contribute significantly to emissions. Refurbishing or replacing these systems and improving the energy performance of these buildings is crucial for advancing sustainability in schools. Our sustainability team have been working hard exploring and developing new sustainability initiatives to expand our existing portfolio of services. The first of these is a comprehensive six-stage decarbonisation roadmap of services designed to support new and existing clients in transitioning to a net zero carbon future. Although initially developed with schools in mind, the roadmap is transferable and its principles can be applied to other sectors. Want to find out more? 🌐 Queen Mary University of London with new approach to sustainability! The university's refurbishment of the Joseph Priestley Building introduces an innovative way to reuse heat generated from its data centre. By transforming waste heat into hot water, they're not just cutting down on energy consumption but significantly reducing their carbon footprint too . This forward-thinking method allows the water to reach temperatures of up to 167°F, seamlessly feeding into the campus' heating system. It's a game-changer , not only boosting the efficiency of their data centre but actively decreasing reliance on traditional gas boilers and slashing CO2 emissions. Queen Mary's initiative begs the question: Can more businesses repurpose excess heat from their server rooms? Not only is it environmentally responsible, but it also paves the way for cost savings and enhanced energy security. #Sustainability #DataCentre #DataCenter

"The Cheapest Energy We Can Make Is the Energy We Don’t Use" – Dale Vince I’ve recently been inspired by eco-champion Dale Vince and his book Manifesto – The Battle for Green Britain. One quote, in particular, stands out: "The cheapest energy we can make is the energy we don’t use, through avoided consumption." This idea strikes at the core of what we aim to achieve at Mitchell & Dickinson. Energy efficiency, especially through home insulation, is one of the most impactful and cost-effective ways to reduce our carbon footprint and lower future energy bills. It’s not just about finding greener energy sources, but also about consuming less. In 2006, when I first started working in the sustainable sector, this was a message I took to heart. Working with traditional craftspeople in India during my exchange programme taught me the value of sustainability, whether in design, energy use, or craftsmanship. Since then, I’ve applied this thinking to everything we do at Mitchell & Dickinson. Home insulation, while often complex in listed and period properties, plays a critical role in this battle for a greener Britain. By using less energy, we can make a real difference. Let’s take inspiration from leaders like Dale Vince and continue to make small, impactful changes that will benefit future generations. 🌍💚 #Sustainability #EnergyEfficiency #GreenLiving #HomeInsulation #MitchellAndDickinson #CarbonReduction #DaleVince #EcoFriendly

I earned a certificate by completing the Decarbonization Pathway to Net Zero, Operational Strategies to Reduce Emissions training, prepared by BOMA Canada and funded by the Government of Canada 🔆 The training was comprehensive and rich, covering Canadian green building regulations and standards, strategic roadmap for decarbonization, from the idea stage of the project to the formation of a multidisciplinary team, technical preparation, and integration. I'm excited to have chosen this field because while examining exemplary projects around Ontario, I noticed that I could see areas such as green roof technologies, efficient emission reduction practices in water management, lighting systems, innovative HVAC systems, and even the use of biomaterials that I was working on for our own startup with a holistic perspective. In Canada, everyone is racing against time in their personal and professional lives. While immersed in a system where the emotional cost of earning hourly wages is realizing that your time is directly exchanged for money, there isn't much time left to spare for "the world" that is in need of saving. With this in mind, I strive to work for the future of sustainability and hope to establish a presence in this field in Canada in the years to come! 🙏🏽🌀 #Sustainability #Canada #FutureOfWork #ClimateAction #GlobalAwareness #WorkingForChange #Decarbonization #Greenbuilding #Zerocarbon #Strategies

🌍 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘀 𝗨𝗟𝗘𝗭 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗔 𝗪𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗶𝗿! 🌍 🚗 The News: London’s expanded Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) has significantly reduced pollutants like particulate matter and nitrogen oxide, according to recent data. 📜 The Context: The ULEZ expansion to include all of London faced political opposition due to concerns about financial impacts on residents. However, the new data shows substantial reductions in harmful emissions, with a 22% drop in particulate matter and a 21% decrease in nitrogen oxide in outer London. 🌱 Why it Matters for the Planet: Policies like ULEZ are crucial for reducing air pollution and combating climate change. London’s success could serve as a model for other cities considering similar measures to manage pollution and traffic congestion. 🔮 What’s Next: With most vehicles now complying with emission standards, ULEZ revenues are expected to decline as the policy successfully promotes cleaner cars. This trend supports the goal of eventually phasing out pollution fees as emissions standards are met. 💬 One Quote: “The decision to expand the ULEZ was a difficult one, but the right one,” said London Mayor Sadiq Khan. 📊 One Stat: The expanded ULEZ has generated over £130 million in fees, but this is expected to decrease as vehicle compliance increases. #Sustainability #CleanAir #ClimateAction #ULEZ #EnvironmentalPolicy #GreenCities #PublicHealth #AirQuality

Net-zero transition will deliver at least ‘£164bn in benefits’ to UK. Cutting emissions from buildings and transport across the UK could yield billions of pounds in economic “co-benefits”, leaving people healthier and better off, a new study published in the Journal of Environmental Studies & Sciences (JESS) finds, as reported by Carbon Brief. The study argues that while such running cost savings are significant, they are dwarfed by the “social benefits” of net-zero. These include the economic benefits of improved air quality, less congested roads and warmer homes. The researchers calculate that around four-fifths of the economic gains from cutting building and transport emissions over the next decade will be social benefits. This is mostly due to fewer people driving cars, with far-reaching consequences for everyone’s health. The HACT and PNZ Carbon award-winning #RetrofitCredits initiative, looks to access additional funding for the decarbonisation of UK homes and at the same time measuring the social value of these works and improving the wellbeing of people living in them. #retrofit #climtechange #netzero
