"We’ve all experienced long waits when trying to get medical care. If it feels more common than before, that’s because it is." Senator Camera Bartolotta, lead sponsor of Senate Bill 25, wrote an op-ed discussing the health challenges that Pennsylvanians currently face. The healthcare workforce shortage means delayed medical care, the closing of hospitals, and increased costs for some providers to remain open. When patients can't access primary care, their issues often become more severe and costly, ending in an emergency room visit which could have been prevented. Senate Bill 25 is a no-cost solution to these growing problems, allowing nurse practitioners in Pennsylvania to practice with the requirement of a written collaborative agreement with a physician. Senator Bartolotta explains that despite how collaborative agreements may sound, "physicians rarely meet their nurse practitioners and almost never meet the patients. A collaboration agreement is simply an annual fee nurses must pay to receive a signature on a paper filed with the state board." By obtaining your NPI number, you not only gain individual recognition but also contribute to our collective strength. As Dr. Sean Reed (2020) puts it, "Registering for the U.S. Census allows individual people to be recognized officially; registering in sufficient numbers builds political strength for their community." 🗳️💪 Let's use our voices to drive change at all levels. Together, says Dr. Pamela Moss (2022), "A bolder CNS voice would also lead to changes at all levels (local, state, and federal) to reform the healthcare system." 🏥📊 Sign up for your NPI Number today: https://nppes.cms.hhs.gov/ | #npiwhy #CNS --- 🌐 Source: Moss, P. Very interesting article my perspective is grey but if you consider that the government wanted digital transformation and yet there are multiple Trusts who have not gone down this process. Is the fact that nursing notes the medical notes remain separated in many trusts due to other reasons ? We still have an archaic system based of historical tradition in many areas. Nurses roles have expanded significantly and roles and responsibilities have increased but we are not heard in the same way for our clinical knowledge and skills as our other medical and AHP colleagues? Why is this ?
