According to the ILO Convention 138 on the Minimum Age for Admission to Employment, the minimum age for employment should not be less than the age of completion of compulsory schooling, and in any case, not less than 15 years old. Ethiopia has ratified the above convention and set the minimum age under Labour Proclamation No. 1156/2019. Child labour deprives children of the joys and opportunities of childhood. It undermines their physical, mental, social, health and moral wellbeing. it disturb their education, it inhibits their ability to attend school regularly or focus on their studies. In the most serious cases, it can lead to the separation of children from their families, exposure to severe dangers, or even conditions similar to slavery. We urge the Ethiopian government to enforce the existing laws to protect children from child labour and hold accountable any individuals or entities that violate these laws. #Protectchildrenfromforcedlabour #Abolishchildlabour #Humanrights

World Against Child Labour!!! Child labor is a pervasive issue that undermines children's rights and hampers their development. Efforts to combat child labor involve multiple strategies, including stricter enforcement of labor laws, improving access to quality education, and addressing poverty. International organizations like the ILO work towards setting global standards and monitoring compliance. Community awareness programs are vital in changing societal attitudes and promoting the importance of child education over labor. Effective government policies focusing on economic support for families can reduce the financial pressures that drive child labor. Collaboration between governments, NGOs, and businesses is crucial in creating sustainable solutions. #labourday2024 #againstchildlabour #saynotochildlabour #endchildlabourday #educationforall

A National Policy on Elimination of Child Labor is an economic and social necessity. A comprehensive National Policy is essential to systematically address the root causes of child labor, provide adequate protections for vulnerable children, and create opportunities for their holistic development. By prioritizing education, social support systems, and stringent enforcement measures, such a policy can break the cycle of poverty and exploitation that perpetuates child labor. I am honored to have represented the Central Organization of Trade Unions Kenya in the National Technical Committee to develop the Kenya National Policy on Elimination of Child Labor 2024 - 2030 and the National Action Plan on Elimination of Child Labor. 'As advocates of workers' rights and social justice, trade unions stand in solidarity with children who are forced into exploitative labor conditions. The effective prioritization of enactment and enforcement of the National Policy on Elimination of Child Labor is a reaffirmation of government's commitment to upholding human rights, promoting social justice and building a sustainable future for all'
