𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 & 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐝𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐄𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐃𝐈 𝐊𝐡𝐚𝐧 PCE & Pakistan Youth Change Advocates were in DI Khan 4 District Townhall, engaging with local communities & stakeholders 2 discuss challenges hindering access to #QualityEducation & affecting #LearningOutcomes. The public demonstrated high level of awareness about education issues & clear demands 2 improve education landscape in DI Khan. Decades of #Violence and #Terrorism have left their mark on the region. Although conditions have improved, the threat still looms❗ Ensuring #LawAndOrder remains crucial 2 prevent disruptions in education. After all, how can children & teachers attend school when their #Safety is at risk ❓ The local community conveyed clear expectations 2 parliamentarians, urging an increase in #PublicInvestment in education proportionate to the district's needs 2 improve #LearningOutcomes. 🏫They urged parliamentarians 2 proactively monitor public schools 2 stay informed about issues & respond in a timely manner. While government has significantly increased investment in education, its impact on ground varies, underscoring the need 4 robust #Monitoring & #Transparency in utilization of public funds. The presence of 2 different education systems & curricula exacerbates #LearningDisparities & diminishes confidence in public education system. #UrbanRuralDisparities run deep, particularly affecting #AccesstoEducation for #Girls 👩🎓. Cultural norms, biases & poverty further deprioritize #Girls’Education & retention beyond middle school. This issue is compounded by lack of basic facilities such as #Furniture 💧 #WASHServices & 💡 #Electricity, which undermines morale of 👨👩👧👦parents, students & 👨🏫👩🏫 teachers. Consequently, learning outcomes suffer & number of #OutOfSchoolChildren increases. While monitoring teacher performance is essential, a holistic approach is needed that also ensures the availability of basic facilities. How can learning be effective when students are fainting in the #SwelteringHeat? 🌡 #GenderDisparities in education persist. #Poverty, combined with the impacts of #ClimateChange, presents significant hurdles, further exacerbated by a general low priority for girls' education in rural areas & delays in rehabilitating schools damaged by #2022Floods🌊 There is also a pressing need to raise awareness and improve access 2 various #SocialSecurityNets to enable children from #LowIncomeHouseholds to continue their academic journeys 📚 Local stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment 2 addressing these community concerns. They emphasized the importance of upholding highest standards of transparency in financial spending💰 & stressed the need 2enhance engagement with the local community 2increase their stake in public education system and infrastructure. #EducationForAll #GirlsEducation #PCE

With 22.6 million children in #Pakistan 🇵🇰 out of school and only 60% achieving #basicliteracy and #numeracyskills,✏🧮 we must urgently address the gaps in our education system. Six months after the #generalelections, federal and provincial governments, along with political parties, must demonstrate their commitment to #Article25A by scaling public #investmentinEducation to a minimum of 4% of GDP. "From Concerns to Solutions: Connecting Communities and Policymakers to Tackle the Education Emergency" Several months after the general elections, it is time to remind political stakeholders about the commitments made to the people in election manifestos to tackle the #EducationEmergency in Pakistan 🇵🇰 PCE and Pakistan Youth Change Advocates have initiated a series of townhall meetings to engage with the local communities, policymakers, and other key stakeholders. These sessions have provided valuable insights into the grassroots challenges, bringing the education related issues of the communities to the notice of their representatives in parliament. The townhall was not only a platform for open discussion but also a forum where the Parliamentarians listened and pledged to resolve the public’s challenges. Finding sustainable and localized solutions to counter #EducationEmergency requires synergy between public and policymakers and it requires an #adaptive and #holistic approach. The interaction between constituents and their MNAs/MPAs needs to be expanded to provide #QualityEducationForAll. While the population is on the rise, parents must advocate for increasing number of public schools to match the population. It is the responsibility of legislators to proactively identify and address the ongoing education crisis, ensuring no child remains OOS. In areas where child labor and poverty are widespread, providing #ALPs in evening schools and technical education can convince parents to send their children to schools. Teachers must retain child's interest & presence through engaging and quality learning. #EducationFinancing gap must be addressed immediately to ensure every child’s #RTE. The vacant teaching positions must also be filled with an emphasis on merit-based recruitment. Pledges and Commitments: MPAs from Punjab, Kanwal Liaqat and Malik Muhammad Waheed, committed to proactively try to bridge the gap in #AcesstoEducation by increasing the number of public schools in their constituency, focusing on post-primary and girls' schools. They also pledged to upgrade the primary school in Shadi Pura to support students transitioning to higher grades. They also assured to collaborate with relevant authorities to fill vacant teaching positions on a merit basis as soon as possible. With over 100 community members, parliamentarians and other education sector stakeholders present, it is evident that education is among key issues and priority of the people. Let’s continue to work together to advocate for #InclusiveEducation, #EducationForAll, and support the #VoteForSafeEducation campaign. Huge Step Forward for Girls' Education in Pakistan! There's encouraging news for girls' education in Pakistan! We applaud President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari, and the Christian community for successfully raising the minimum age of marriage for both boys and girls to 18 under the "Christian Marriage (Amendment) Act, 2024." This amendment directly addresses one of the key factors contributing to the staggering number of 13.83 million Pakistani girls (ages 5-16) #out of school #OOSC. #Child marriages not only rob girls of their childhood but also disrupt their #education, limiting their opportunities and perpetuating a cycle of #poverty. However, the fight for equal education for all girls isn't over. While this Act is a significant step in the right direction, we urge the Pakistani government to take the following actions: ◾Standardize the minimum age of marriage to 18 years across all religions and communities to extend consistent legal protection to all girls in Pakistan. ◾Develop and implement comprehensive strategies to re-enroll girls who dropped out due to child marriage. This could involve flexible schooling options, targeted support programs, and addressing the social stigma associated with returning to school after marriage.
