‘Rape culture is part of the reason why sexual violence is so widespread against women and girls’ It’s part of the reason women and girls are raped. Let that sink in. Now you know this, help be part of the solution. Let’s make it really uncomfortable for anyone to do it. If you’re a leader, create an environment where it’s not acceptable, and where women feel safe coming to you to report it, and confident that you will act accordingly. If you’re a leader, you’re either part of the solution or part of the problem. Your organisations culture comes directly from you.
At Rape Crisis England & Wales, we believe that 'rape culture' is part of the reason why sexual violence and abuse is so widespread against women and girls. That's why we work hard to challenge the systems that allow rape culture to thrive. A huge thank you to Soundproofbox CIC for joining us at Kyra Women's Project for the 1 in 4 Starlight Stroll, helping raise awareness about the prevalence of domestic abuse! Their workshops across the UK are truly phenomenal, educating communities on what domestic abuse looks like in practice and identifying key red flags. It's essential work, and we’re so grateful for their support 💜

It’s a sad day when girls & women are faced w/more adversity than before. We know the profound effect it will have on their lives in the days ahead. As a parent w/daughters & sons, I will continue to advocate for what’s right, teach respects & ensure firm boundaries are established. Some says it takes a village to raise our children, but here we are in our current state as a country going backwards on integrity where we cannot rely on this “village” as a whole to raise them properly. It’s time we take a stand to defend, protect & support these girls & women as individuals finding their places & establishing roots. It’s an insult, a disgrace & an embarrassment when we have our current president, current administrations, schools, colleges & even retails telling them they’re not worth defending, protecting or supporting as if they’re discarded trash. I stand w/them & will do all I can to stop this madness as well others too who are enraged too by such abuse.

The Chronicle of Philanthropy recently published a piece from Cora Daniels discussing the challenges faced by leaders of color, particularly in the wake of the Supreme Court's decision to strike down affirmative action in higher education. Daniels suggests that those in the philanthropic space should double down on their support for leaders of color, increasing unrestricted funding instead of tightening purse strings. Read the entire article to learn more about how Daniels believes funders should fight for racial justice. #affirmativeaction #FundingRacialJustice #LeadersofColor
Opinion: In 2024, let’s resolve to double down support for leaders of color and stand up against perceived legal threats.

Did you know that in Illinois the courts (including the Juvenile Detention Centers) are not subject to the Freedom of Information Act? As the most powerful branch of government, it is past time to shine a light on the judicial branch, to ensure the courts (and Juvenile Detention Centers) are upholding the principles of equity, accountability and efficacy. And yet after two years of trying, our lawmakers continue to block even a hearing on why it's so important to move the courts - and how they operate - out of the shadows. When they won't give you a hearing in Springfield, take the hearing to the people! I hope you'll join us for an important conversation that impacts us all. Learn more and register here: https://lnkd.in/gFF8eRHq “Every day, thousands of people enter courthouses across Illinois seeking justice. They might be asking for protection from an abuser, fighting to keep their home, working to keep custody of their children, or navigating a criminal case as a victim or a defendant [They might be a child being held at the Juvenile Temporary Detention Center]. We know the court system has historically favored people with wealth and racial privilege and disproportionately harmed those without. But we can only fight for a more fair and just court system if we have complete information about the workings of the courts. Without transparency, it’s impossible to have true accountability.” - Jonah Newman, Injustice Watch #transparency #accountability #courtsmatter #justice Briana Payton Jonah Newman Curtis J. Tarver II Bradly Johnson MPA Adam M. Alonso
We're hosting a panel from 12-1:30 p.m. on April 25 with Common Cause Illinois at BUILD Chicago Community Center to explore how Illinois Courts impact the lives of everyday people and why it is time they are subject to FOIA. Panelists include Rep. Curtis Tarver II, Illinois State Representative; Briana Peyton, Director for Policy & Advocacy at the Chicago Appleseed Center for Fair Courts; and Jonah Newman, Injustice Watch Editor. BGA Policy Analyst Sophia Van Pelt will be moderating. Learn more and register here: https://lnkd.in/gFF8eRHq
