Dr Arietta Spinou, Lecturer in Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy Practice and Research at King's College London, emphasises the crucial role of collaboration among healthcare professionals, charities, and other organisations in advancing knowledge and research into bronchiectasis - a common yet often overlooked chronic lung condition. Currently, bronchiectasis has no licensed treatments, and diagnosis is often prolonged and inaccurate due to limited awareness and symptom overlap with other lung conditions such as COPD and asthma. With a better understanding of this disease, we can help accelerate the development of innovations that can improve the lives of patients. But we can't do this alone! We are eager to collaborate with others in this field. Find out how we can support your work and get in touch: https://lnkd.in/eMDiNj84

Happy to share our latest article on the impact of Faecal Incontinence (FI) on patients' lives and their preferred treatment outcomes. Our study highlights the huge impact FI can have on someones life, and how FI affects not only physical health, but also psychological and social wellbeing, often leading to feelings of fear and insecurity. The systematic review we published last month showed that we as researchers and physicians tend to focus on physical outcomes, whereas patients in this study emphasized the importance of reclaiming normalcy and independence rather than only focusing on symptom reduction. A huge thank you to all the patients who were willing to share their experiences. And thank you to all the authors: Daniel Keszthelyi, Stephanie Breukink, Merel Kimman https://lnkd.in/eg9qGHGx The insights shared by participants in this study, combined with the outcomes identified in our systematic review, Delphi rounds, and consensus meeting with patients and healthcare professionals/researchers, have provided invaluable input for the Faecal Incontinence Core Outcome Set (to be published). 📃

This linked article from Wendy Powell is great guide for anyone wanting to understand more about healthcare commissioning (buying). Obviously it applies to MUTU System (a tool to help women manage their perinatal health) but could be read in a broader context too and especially women’s health technology. If you (innovators) understand the challenges, you can better find ways to overcome them. And if you are looking for advisors who understand the challenges, look no further than Mills & Reeve | Health and care 💁🏼♀️ Thanks for sharing Wendy #HealthTech #WomensHealthTech #FemTech #NHS #DigitalHealth

If GPs recommend MUTU System, why isn’t it free on the NHS?’ This is a question we are asked a LOT! Several NHS GPs as well as women health physios and other medical professionals recommend and advocate for MUTU System. They review much of our content, and appear in our social media posts, as well as in some ads. If NHS doctors are recommending MUTU to some patients doesn't that mean it should be free on the NHS? Why isn't it free on the NHS? And how / why do NHS doctors refer or work with paid solutions and programmes? I've tried to answer it all here! https://lnkd.in/eC8NtcBs There will be nuance as to when it is appropriate to recommend a paid solution to NHS patients. Our medical ambassadors work in very different demographics around the country and are very cognisant of this. We are transparent about our efforts to have MUTU commissioned for wider accessibility, whilst also transparent about our business imperative to remain viable and profitable as a bootstrapped (no investors) small-ish business. Please read the article linked if you have a moment. Open to questions or insights! And... *if you think it's useful to others, please share! 🥰 * With gratitude to our UK Medical Ambassadors Dr Anita Raja Dr Raj Arora Odinaka S. If you are concerned about the symptoms of Long COVID and how it might affect you, please check out Biocode Technologies.
🎉It's great to see the producers of The Good Doctor adding a Long COVID plotline to S6E18. We see stories like this in the real world every day: high-functioning individuals unable to work, think, move. In this episode, the patient gets no answers or help, which is the case for most of the 100 million+ people struggling with this condition. Why is this? ❌ Currently, there is no diagnostic test for Long COVID. Available clinical tests frequently show no abnormalities, leading to the misconception that there is nothing wrong with these individuals. 🌟 Biocode Technologies is commercialising the first blood test that produces actionable results for Long COVID patients. How? 🔬 Biocode was involved in early research, done by Resia Pretorius and her team at Stellenbosch University, that showed most Long COVID patients have persistent, small clots circulating in their blood. These Microclots may impair blood flow and exacerbate endothelial damage, leading to vascular dysfunction and impaired oxygen delivery to various tissues and organs. This can cause a range of symptoms, including fatigue, cognitive impairment, shortness of breath, chronic pain, post-exertional malaise, and more. 🎉 Even in the early stages of commercialisation, our novel microclot test has played a life-changing role in the lives of many patients with unexplained Long COVID symptoms by providing: ✅ Actionable results ✅ Validation of patient experience ✅ A tangible path to better health Many Long COVID patients treated for clotting experience significant symptom relief or improvement. 🌎 We are working hard to standardise and validate this test for global roll-out. Next time a Long COVID plotline is created, the resolution won't just be a med-drama style monologue about how the patient should learn to accept their fate.

Henry Ford Health has joined the Uncover CKD – Care Collective, a strategic partnership between Premier, AstraZeneca and leading U.S. health systems to address undiagnosed and rising rates of chronic kidney disease (CKD). This collaboration was conceived through Henry Ford Innovations’ ongoing relationship with both partners. The initiative’s goals are to: · Identify patients with undiagnosed CKD · Raise awareness of undiagnosed CKD among health care professionals · Educate and support health systems that want to improve or develop and implement their strategies for CKD diagnosis, treatment and management. An estimated 1 in 7 U.S. adults have CKD, and of these adult patients, 90 percent do not know they have CKD. Black Americans are more than 3 times as likely, and Latinos are 1.3 times more likely, to have kidney failure compared to White Americans. Among CKD patients, the cost of preventable hospitalizations is $79 million. Through the Collective, we are focused on reducing health disparities by co-designing solutions to raise awareness and advance the prevention, detection and treatment of undiagnosed CKD in marginalized and underrepresented groups. We are doing this using scalable solutions, including provider and patient education, real-world data analyses, AI-enabled clinical decision support (CDS) technology and new CKD resources. “We are committed to advancing health equity – addressing social drivers of health and increasing and measuring the delivery of equitable care,” said Denise White-Perkins, MD, PhD, Chair, Henry Ford Department of Family Medicine and Director, Healthcare Equity Initiatives, Office of System Diversity Equity and Inclusion. “Through real-world, data-driven research and solutions co-designed with health systems and life sciences partners, the CKD Care Collective is enabling us to enhance clinical outcomes and financial sustainability, and improve the overall health for all of our patient populations.”

Parkinson's disease is a complex condition that have a strong impact not only on patients, but also on neurologists and caregivers. As we work to improve the lives of those affected by Parkinson's disease, it's important to address the criticalities and unmet needs of all figures involved. One of the main pain points is the sharing of updated clinical data between patients and doctors, which can be a challenge due to the limited availability of integrated data collection systems focused on Parkinson's disease . Additionally, frequent in-presence medical appointments are often necessary, which can represent a particular discomfort for frail patients and their caregivers. At BRAIN INNOVATIONS, we are developing a digital solution able to solve these challenges, offering patients the possibility to collect data on their symptoms directly from their smartphone📱 or smartwatch⌚ and to share these with healthcare professionals through a dedicated web app interface 💻. Moreover, the solution, developed in collaboration with patients in a real clinical setting, will also enable remote communication and video-conferencing through a telemedicine platform. Stay tuned for updates 🚀!
