Founders from the business and institutional sectors started to build the network in Croatia with the purpose to drive the transformation of the built environment towards sustainable growth. CGBC is built to create a platform for the implementation of green building principles, not only in Croatia, but also in the Central and Eastern European Countries, through close cooperation with the network of GBCs in neighbouring countries. In addition, CGBC is a participant in World Green Building Council, a global network leading the transformation of the built environment to make it healthier and sustainable. The strategic and operative goals of the CGBC are interconnected with the mission, vision, and ideas of the World GBC. The Green Recovery project component, spearheaded by GIZ over two years, has significantly advanced the green transition in BiH. 🔍 A major focus was on transparency, ensuring accessible information on green and circular economy policies through a new web platform managed by Vanjskotrgovinska - Spoljnotrgovinska komora BiH. This platform also promotes best practices and serves as a vital resource. 🌐 📚 Comprehensive green business model manuals and guidebooks have been released, available to industries, experts, and students at technical faculties, fostering educated and sustainable business practices. 🔄 The initiative sparked valuable public-private dialogues, culminating in concrete Recommendations from the private sector for advancing BiH’s green economy. 🏭 Most importantly, the pilot implementation of green business models in five metal and wood processing companies demonstrated significant environmental and economic benefits, thanks to combined financial and technical assistance. 📈 🤝 These positive outcomes have inspired these companies to develop and pursue their own green transition plans, showcasing the effectiveness of an integrated support model. At CENER 21 - Center for Energy, Environment and Resources, we are honored to have been a part of this unique initiative, providing technical support throughout its implementation. Over the last couple of years, a collective of Māori planners, researchers and environmental kaitiaki have been exploring whether the reforms of our environmental management system (the Resource Management Act; RMA) are “fit for [OUR] purpose”, and if not, then what would that look like in relation to Māori resistance and resilience? This has been their driving kaupapa: Any Aotearoa-based system to guide the management of te taiao (the natural environment) MUST be fit-for-purpose for Māori. We need a Te Tiriti-centered framework, that equally values and gives effect to Te Ao Māori and Te Ao Pākehā and provides wellbeing for all New Zealanders. In fact, it is 180 years overdue. The two new laws replacing the RMA, passed by the last Parliament, weren’t perfect by any means…but they were significantly better than what had gone before. The reforms were helping to put Papatūānuku first but they didn’t go far enough. They did not reinstate equal rights and interests for Māori, and our Māori communities were not in the position of having self-determination to the fullest extent when it came to managing our resources and determining our futures. This beautiful video was filmed at a noho wānanga held last year, at Ohaki pā in Waikato. It was attended by both tāngata whenua and tāngata Tiriti from around the motu, to share ideas, learn from one another, and find ways of working together that put Papatūānuku first for the benefit of all. It is a snapshot of resilience and resistance in practice. As you may know, just before Christmas, the new Government repealed those new Acts that so many people had poured their time, energy, expertise and hope into. Yet the fundamental need remains the same: We need a Te Tiriti-centered system for managing te taiao that changes our trajectory from environmental collapse to regeneration and wellbeing. In fact, that need is more urgent now than ever. As lead kairangahau Māori (Māori researcher) Lara Taylor says: “Governments come and go, we must not let the government of the day deter us…we're looking beyond that and working with those that care for our collective and long-term wellbeing – to care for our taiao, and do the best for whenua, whānau, and future generations.” Lara Taylor, Papa Pounamu, Sustainable Seas National Science Challenge

🌏 What are the unique challenges in heating summer cottages? In the recent article for #CEESEUDIGIT project, Ülo Kask - an expert from Tartu Regional Energy Agency, highlighted the peculiarities of heating summer cottages which often face long breaks between heating periods. This topic is crucial given that these properties are predominantly used seasonally and require specific attention to minimize environmental impact and enhance fire safety. Ülo's tips for efficient heating 1. Ensure good ventilation: When heating, make sure there's adequate airflow to facilitate complete combustion and prevent soot buildup. 2. Regular maintenance: Clean chimneys and stoves regularly to avoid the buildup of soot and potential fire hazards. 3. Use dry wood: Wood should be air-dried with a moisture content of around 20% to ensure it burns efficiently and cleanly. 👉 Read the full advice on efficient and safe heating methods here (in Estonian): https://lnkd.in/dbB_mfja The aim of the CEESEU-DIGIT project, funded by the European Union and involving experts from #CEESEN, is to address the lack of awarenes, capacity, and resources in the CEE region, to contribute towards EU's climate goals. 👉 Learn more about the CEESEU-DIGIT project and its initiatives here: https://lnkd.in/drYv-6wp #ClimateGoals #JustTransition #GreenTransition #LIFEproject #LIFEProgramme
