Sudden unemployment significantly increases the risk of homelessness. I have seen this occur firsthand. When individuals lose their jobs or experience wage reductions, they may struggle to afford housing costs. This financial strain can quickly lead to homelessness, especially for those lacking strong social networks or support systems. It’s crucial to address both individual and institutional barriers to employment for those at risk. #Homelessness #SanJose #JobSecurity #HousingStabilization

This week, Single Homeless Project and Solace Women's Aid are leading our women's #RoughSleeping census, the largest census of its kind. Women who are rough sleeping will often hide to stay safe and are not picked up in existing #roughsleeping data collection methods. Piloted last year, the census aims to change that. A coalition of leading women’s and homelessness organisations are using a unique methodology and gender-informed outreach approach that truly accounts for women’s experiences. The census will further evidence the need for gender-informed approaches in policies, strategies and funding and support the development of new practices which can better reach and support women. Felicity Buchan MP, Minister for Housing and Homelessness who joined a briefing said: “The Government has an ambition to end rough sleeping for good so the census that is happening this week is critically important in achieving that objective.” Let's work together to ensure women get the support they need and deserve to leave #homelessness behind. #RoughSleeping #WomensHomelessness #HomelessnessAwareness #Census #DVA #Solace

Vulnerable populations draw a disproportionate level of resources in a crisis. These indicators are warnings to adapt the current preparedness communications and community resilience strategies to include local supports for those who have mobility, cognitive and resource constraints. If these numbers are realized it will exceed the capacity of the public sector to address in a significant event. #emergencymanagement #disastermanagement #emergencypreparedness #resilience #community #vulnerable #innovation #disruptions #disaster #response #outrech #communications https://lnkd.in/d2mjsNSH

Newly released analysis of census data shows that kinship carers are less likely to be employed, and kinship families have higher levels of deprivation than parental households. Our new report, out next week to coincide with #KinshipCareWeek, looks at how support for kinship families varies, both across local areas and by type of kinship care arrangement. Foundations is committed to finding out what works to support kinship families, so that local areas can consistently offer the types of support that are most likely to improve outcomes for children. So that children and young people are supported by their families to develop and thrive, be safe in their homes, and stay safely with their families as much as possible. #KinshipCare #ChildrensSocialCare

Interesting facts regarding affordable housing. Sadly those stats are just those that are in affordable housing. It doesn't touch the long list of families who qualify yet are on the waiting list to get into affordable housing. We get several calls daily asking for rental assistance. We have got to do better creating more affordable housing for families. Housing is a right not a privilege.
I asked my admin what % of Americans she thought lived in Section 8 housing (project based and Vouchers). Her answer -- 35%. (And that's what many Americans think.) The actual percentage - 2.8%. Here are the facts: SECTION 8 STATISTICS 2023-2022 Less than 3% of the US population lives in section 8 housing 83% of families in HUD housing make less than 20,000 annually Whites are 49% of project-based housing according to the census bureau Elderly tenants are 38% of section 8 housing tenants Section 8 housing serves 2.1 million people in 1.2 million households #affordablehousing #Section8 #poverty #seniorhousing

This week, This week, Solace Women's Aid and Single Homeless Project are leading our women's rough sleeping census, the largest census of its kind. Outreach teams across 30 London boroughs and 14 authorities across England will head out to conduct the biggest census of women sleeping rough. Last year’s census found 154 women sleeping rough in London over five days and the expectation is that these numbers will rise as rough sleeping has increased right across the UK. The Women’s Rough Sleeping Census, piloted in October 2022 in London, is led by a coalition of leading women’s and homelessness organisations, London Councils and the Greater London Authority (GLA). This year, local authorities will expand the census to include Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Leeds, Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole, Cambridge, Nottingham, Coventry, Salford, Manchester City, Rochdale, Bury, Oldham, Bolton and Wigan.
