Recently updated PAHO guidelines recommend safer, shorter-term treatments like thermotherapy and liposomal amphotericin B. These advancements promise significant improvements in patient care, with shorter hospital stays and reduced side effects. PAHO, along with partners like Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative - DNDi, plays a critical role in collaborative efforts focused on optimizing procurement strategies, leveraging economies of scale, and strengthening local healthcare systems. Putumayo is one of the 32 Colombia's departments and it sharing borders with Peru and Ecuador, it's a region with limited access to healthcare due to the scattered population, hindering patients' arrival to hospitals. This is evident, for instance, in that out of the 50,000 individuals at cardiovascular risk, only approximately 12,000 are identified and enrolled in prevention programs. But more than 30% still remains to be identified. Given this context, the Movement Health, in its aim to provide digital solutions enabling access to quality medical care, presents the Telesalud Putumayo team who developed Delfos, a technological solution that aims to anticipate the future through early interventions to prevent severe and costly diseases such as cardiovascular ones. Today, Delfos is a reality thanks to the collaborative work of Jhony F. Lopez Torres and his team, the Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, the Instituto Tecnológico del Putumayo, Minciencias Canal Oficial, and the General System of Royalties. Chagas disease: Time to look closer into the biology of parasite host intraction. Last week we saw exciting dscussions on many aspects of Chagas disease. On R&D many aspects were touched and advances higlited. What was not so much addresed were the recent progress on the cell and molecular aspects of parasite / host cell interaction. Some of these may question our paradigms on discovery and development, particularly to address the patients in the indeterminate phase. Some of these cell biology observations point to a need to develop tools to asses the intracellular amastigotes and their intracellular enviroments particularly interesting are the aspects on induction of intracellular latency.
