Do you know about 211? "United Way continues to bridge the gap between need and access to resources. The 211 network, which is supported by United Way Worldwide...is an unmatched service that connects millions of people in need throughout North America to local support and essential resources including housing and food assistance, employment, health care and more. Last year alone, 211 responded to over 15.4 million requests for help. This service is not only a vital helpline, but it is also a unique opportunity to obtain a pulse on the needs of the community, which can help cross-sector leaders understand and respond with relevant solutions." ~United Way Worldwide President/CEO, Angela Williams. This #MinorityHealthMonth, let's bridge the gap! ✊🏾✊🏽✊🏿 For far too long, rural communities (especially the BIPOC population) have faced unequal access to quality healthcare. At H.O.P.E. Collective, Inc. we want to help change that. This #MinorityHealthMonth isn't just about awareness, it's about action. Our call to action is that each person reading this post, start advocating for quality healthcare for yourself and those around you! Some ways to do this: make a list of questions to ask your healthcare provider for your next visit, keep up with your annual exams and keep track of medications. 🩺 https://loom.ly/5kdQW9E #HopeCollectiveInc #Education #BIPOC #HealthEquity #RuralHealth

Nonprofit Governance, Strategy & Impact Nerd 🤓 | I do: Strategic Planning, Board Development and Governance Training
If equity matters to your organization, you need to be thoughtful about the ongoing reality of COVID-19. If sustainability matters to your organization, you need to be thoughtful about the ongoing reality of COVID-19. Great article from Miquette Thompson in the Community Centric Fundraising blog. Thanks to Jennifer DeBues for sharing into my feed. #equityandinclusion #equitymatters #ableism #disabilityrights #disabilityinclusion #nonprofitleadership #communitycentricfundraising
Here's a great read to kick the year off. I appreciate the call to think about all the things that have changed or surfaced since the pandemic started and to begin "making care, love and justice actionable" "But isn’t that why so many of us are here—to do the very hard work of tackling systemic issues in service to a more just and equitable world? Why are we ignoring something that has such widespread implications for our communities and movements?"

Improving #HealthForAll requires strong partnerships. This week WHO/Europe met with over 40 non-state actors to discuss how to improve collaboration & engagement in 2024. Bringing the voices of society, millions of patients and doctors into our work, non-state actors help WHO to serve as a global health leader. Non-state actors are ▶ non-governmental organizations ▶ private sector entities ▶ philanthropic organizations ▶ academic institutions Find out more about WHO’s partnerships 👉 https://lnkd.in/dDZi_ee8 #UnitedActionForBetterHealth

I am so glad Nic (Nicole) Gagliardi's share of this post came up in my feed - finally, I see other people are talking about this too! COVID-19 hasn't gone away as much as we may be tired of it - and it IS an equity issue that many in our sector are ignoring. This article eloquently sums up many things I've been thinking of late - here's a great quote that resonated with me: "We had an opportunity to radically reimagine and restructure ways of connecting with and caring for each other when COVID-19 emerged. We can still recommit to this work. I want to push myself and my colleagues to develop creative ways to safely engage with donors and each other, because community care is not an abstract concept or a trite expression–it’s love and justice in action." Some excellent tips in this article - subsidizing N95 masks and normalizing mask wearing, re-introducing COVID-19 mitigation techniques when gathering in-person is necessary, and accepting that in-person isn't by default 'better' (in fact, for some it is far less accessible and much worse). I like that the author, Miquette Thompson, reminds us that we can treat COVID infection as "preventable and not inevitable". Please give this article a read - it's topic that, in my opinion, is not getting nearly enough attention.

Check out a new publication from myself, Orion Mowbray, and Leslie Johnson. 📑 We know that Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) are important, but there is not much research out there regarding the factors that mobilize individuals and communities to support SDOH. SDOH requires community support via voting for healthcare policies promoting SDOH, volunteering for organizations supporting SDOH, and donating money to causes that provide support for those with SDOH risk factors. Our article shows what factors increase the odds of community support for SDOH. Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/eGA573Ne
