These types of programs should be universal and many are surprised to learn they are not. For far too many students with disabilities, the floor drops out from under them at 21 when they age out of special education services into a fragmented, underfunded and inadequate adult services landscape where the onus is on the families and caregivers to fight for funding and services. Most of them will face wait lists that are decades long. Transition planning is critical as is the need for more postsecondary and training options targeted for students with autism and other developmental disabilities. We can't fix the massive underemployment of people with disabilities without addressing this gap. #highereducation #specialeducation #disabilitiesinclusion

Have you ever heard of "quiet quitting"? 🤔 1️⃣ Quiet quitting is prevalent in the workplace, with studies showing that up to 70% of employees have experienced it at some point in their careers. 2️⃣ Unlike traditional quitting, where employees openly express their dissatisfaction and actively seek a change, quiet quitting occurs when individuals disengage silently without raising concerns or seeking support. 3️⃣ Quiet quitting can be detrimental to both individuals and organizations. It can lead to decreased productivity, reduced team morale, and even talent loss, as disengaged employees may start seeking opportunities elsewhere. 4️⃣ It's essential to recognize the signs of quiet quitting, which can include a lack of enthusiasm, decreased initiative, and withdrawal from collaborative efforts. By being aware of these indicators, employers and colleagues can intervene and address the underlying issues. 5️⃣ One of the reasons behind quiet quitting is the fear of negative repercussions or a belief that expressing dissatisfaction will not lead to any meaningful change. This highlights the importance of building a culture of trust and open communication within organizations. Let's start a conversation about quiet quitting and its impact on the workplace! Have you ever experienced it, either personally or within your organization? What strategies do you think can help mitigate its effects? "We talk a lot about our family and flexible working because that is our true reality. Due to various circumstances, I didn't return to work as a Private Client Solicitor after our first daughter was born 13 years ago. With the cost of childcare, even with a professional career, the expense, the juggle and the impact on family life, we decided that Alistair would stick working full-time and I would look after the family full-time. Once our children had all started school, after a 10 year career break it felt like a huge leap to try and get back into working the way I had before, especially being mid-pandemic, and realising the school day doesn't exactly fit with the average working day. From my side of our story, starting Tend Legal meant that I was able to use some of my experience and knowledge whilst working in a flexible way that I could work around my family responsibilities but also giving me the new challenge of running a business for the first time. That is part of our culture here at Tend Legal. We have a fantastic and talented team but we acknowledge that they have a life and commitments when they log off. If we, the founders, have the flexibility to work around then so should our employees. Obviously there is work to be done and it needs to be done well. But if, for example, someone has no childcare on a Friday afternoon then they don't work Friday afternoons. The emphasis is on communication and trust and we think that works." - Shona Wells, Founder, Director. #flexibleworking #founder #lawfirm

How are you planning for Take Your Kids to Work Day? April 25 is quickly approaching, and you still have a chance to encourage parents to bring their kids to the office. Getting to see a parent's professional environment is an experience no First-Generation Professional (FGP) will have had. This puts FGPs at a huge disadvantage because it's so hard to see yourself in an environment that you've never been in before. What are some ways that you can use Take Your Kids to Work Day to show the next generation of professionals what it means to operate in a professional environment that fosters curiosity, exploration, and collaboration? #takeyourkidstowork #employeeexperience #firstgenerationprofessionals
