Lime invests €6 million on the Paris 2024 Olympics to optimise the transport experience for all 15 million visitors. In preparation for the influx, Lime will deploy 5,000 additional electric bikes, recruit 25% more mechanics, 30% more patrol officers and increase the number of chargers from 40 to 90. “Recently, we have already seen a massive uptick in ridership in Paris. For example, in February 2024 (vs feb 2023), Lime saw a +90.84% increase in bike trips. As a result of the expected surge, the city of Paris has allowed us to increase our fleet by +50% to meet the demand we expect,” Hadi Karam, Lime General Manager Western Europe, told Zag Daily. This change aims to enhance road safety and create a more secure environment for all road users. - At 30km/h, the braking distance drastically reduces to 13 meters, less than half the distance required at 50km/h (27 meters). This reduction in speed significantly enhances the potential for avoiding collisions or minimizing their impact - Authorities anticipate a substantial decrease of 20 to 30% in severe accidents - The likelihood of a pedestrian surviving an accident at this speed rises to an impressive 95% - The reduction in speeds means that traffic noise is anticipated to be halved.
