Safe 👏 sidewalks 👏 should 👏 be 👏 standard 👏 We’re proud to announce our latest partnership with Pacific Assistance Dogs Society (PADS) during AccessAbility Week! This partnership will support the launch of an initiative aimed at keeping sidewalks clear for all pedestrians, particularly those with physical mobility challenges or those who are blind or have low vision. Here’s what we’re doing to ensure we keep sidewalks safe for everyone: ☝️Adding stickers to all our 🛴🚲 vehicles, reminding riders of the importance of sidewalk accessibility and the impact of blocked pathways on individuals with disabilities. ✌️Communicating additional 📢📝📱 education to our riders on responsible riding behavior. Learn more about our partnership with PADS on our blog: https://lnkd.in/gPmePybT #SafeRiding #Micromobility #GreenTransportation #PADS

A report today published by the Local Government Association is calling for pavement parking to be banned across England to make streets safer. The Government consulted on options to tackle pavement parking in 2020, and received over 15,000 responses including from Guide Dogs, yet no progress has been made. Did you know that by parking on the pavement, you're putting others at risk? For those with disabilities, including people with sight loss, as well as parents with children, and older people, cars blocking pavements force these groups out onto the road. Will you sign to help us make pavements safer for all? Over 27,000 people have signed so far, will you? 👉 https://bit.ly/40Q8b61 [Visual description: A guide dog owner is walking in the middle of the road down a suburban street with her guide dog (Yellow Labrador). Last Chance to Register! November 16: The Future of E-Bikes in Bend? What can we do to prevent further tragedies while acknowledging the importance of e-bikes role in mobility and transportation. E-bikes came onto the market quickly and the industry has exploded in Central Oregon from kids to retirees. It presents a great opportunity for alternative transportation that provides equity for those with disabilities, mobility issues and longer commutes. But it is also causing conflicts among transportation users, on trails and injuries. How do we now create a system of education, safety, policies and enforcement that acknowledges e-bikes popularity and increased usage? #InBend #Ebikes Register Here: https://lnkd.in/gcTgdTVS

3 years ago today, the Government consulted on options to tackle pavement parking, yet no progress has been made. Did you know that by parking on the pavement, you're putting others at risk? The constant fear that cars will block their way can reduce peoples’ confidence to leave their houses alone. Will you sign to help us make pavements safer for all?👉 https://bit.ly/40Q8b61 For those with disabilities, including people with sight loss, as well as parents with children, and older people, cars blocking pavements force these groups out onto the road - which is not only dangerous, but it can make it impossible for people to get to work, education, or social activities. Popping on to give a wee nod to the shed loads of stuff Parent Carers have to take everywhere to do anything. I know I shouldn’t use absolute language but it is always, everywhere, doing anything AT ALL. ALL THE TIME and it NEVER goes to plan. Well, it’s a miracle when it does and no doubt we make a post about it – or at least a wee jig. Here's a photo of my family going for a swim at Center Parcs. The young man pushed in wheelchair. The toilet seat being wheeled across the dirt in the dark by his brother. The massive bag of swim stuff put in a trolley, hoist slings and floatation aids (and youngest brother). We may also be blasting out toons at top volume as we go. Because if we are going to stick out like a sore thumb, we may as well go big or go home. Equipment matters. The lived experience of how that equipment is used matters. Community Partnership Executive at Guide Dogs Singapore Ltd with expertise in problem solving and digital marketing
It's truly heartening for me to witness the growth of Guide Dog Matt, from a playful puppy to the pro he is today. I vividly recall his first day – a bit whiny yet remarkably responsive to commands. Fast forward to today, Guide Dog Matt is making a lasting impact on his vision impaired user's life for up to 9 years, contributing to safe travel, obstacle avoidance, and companionship. While the accessibility for guide dogs in Singapore has improved, regrettably, our guide dog teams still encounter unfortunate rejections. We appreciate establishments that embrace guide dogs and promote inclusivity. Here are ways you can support us and build a more inclusive society: 1. Double the impact of your donation by contributing to https://lnkd.in/gpXUCCTn before Jan 31 to raise more guide dogs like Matt 2. Display a complimentary decal sticker from GDS to express your support – feel free to reach out to me. 3. Foster awareness by organising a CSR or outreach talk for your organisation. For more information, contact us at admin@guidedogs.org.sg. Every single support can truly make a difference.
As part of SBS Transit's commitment to promoting safety and graciousness on public transport, we participated in their edutaining programme and conducted an outreach talk with students from Pathlight School. 🚍🌟 During the session, we discussed ways to support the vision impaired community on public transport and highlighted proper etiquette when encountering guide dogs in public. Additionally, guide dog Matt took centre stage with a demonstration, showcasing his exceptional skills in guiding his vision impaired user, Gary, for a safe boarding and alighting experience on the bus.🦮 [Video description: A demonstration of a guide dog user and his guide dog working together to safely board a bus and find a seat.] #GDS #GuideDogsSingapore #GuideDogsSG
