MEET THE HIRING MANAGER Let me introduce Emma Kane, our Head of Events with a vibrant spirit and a wealth of experience. From her humble beginnings as a 'pot scrubber' to the current leadership position, she's encountered many challenges, gaining insights and skills along the way! WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB My first job was in a golf club in the kitchen. I was the dish washer otherwise known as the ‘pot scrubber’. It was such a hard shift for a 15-year-old, but I enjoyed it. I loved getting the little brown envelope of cash on pay day. There was no job description. I was such a hard worker and did anything that was asked of me. It taught me a lot about how far I could be pushed. There were some lovely staff members, but I was treated pretty badly by the head chef he was miserable and nasty, but you learn it’s not you, it’s whatever is going on for them is often reflected negatively on you so not to take it personal. WHAT’S A FUN FACT ABOUT YOU THAT YOU’D LIKE TO SHARE. I love to travel – I have visited over 27 countries. WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES. WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME. I love the simple things in life the less drama the better. My ideal spare time is spent at the sea. I love the sea. Just a walk with my family and my dog on the pier or the beach finished off with a good dinner would suit me perfect. There is nothing better than sitting at a table surrounded with people you love eating and chatting. HOW IS ORIGINA DIFFERENT FROM ANY OTHER COMPANY THAT YOU WORKED FOR IN THE PAST. For me it’s the people… I love my job but I love it more because of the culture and environment at Origina. It’s exciting, Origina is fast paced and has endless opportunities. What is different is the exposure to senior level. There is an open-door policy and I feel heard. WHAT DOES DAY TO DAY LOOK LIKE FOR A HEAD OF EVENTS AT ORIGINA. Like all job roles every day is different from pre-event, during event, post event. We are a small team of 3 and we split events out. Every event has its challenges. We make things happen. There could be countless problems in the background, but we get it done. The key is to ensure those we are creating/running the event for only see the delivery they shouldn’t know what happens behind the scenes to make it work. An event can be small or big, but they all follow the same process. Communication with stakeholders is key. WHAT INTERVIEW TIPS WOULD YOU HAVE FOR SOMEONE APPLYING FOR A ROLE WITH ORIGINA. • Be on time. • Know the job spec and ensure your skillset works against it. • Listen to the questions being asked carefully before answering. • Be your true self. Let your personality shine through. • Do your homework on the company. • Have specific examples of events you have managed. #Originaculture #hiringmanager #interviewtips #Origina

Allow us to support your talent acquisition efforts. We start by embracing your company’s specific needs and expectations, and then we strategically tailor a plan that will not only lend to the best results identifying top tier leadership, but also focusing on bench strength. We are seasoned hospitality professionals, who combined, have decades of experience in about every job in hospitality operations, so we fully understand the complexity and challenges that come with recruitment and retention in today’s very competitive market. We also recognize that Human Resources departments are already overwhelmed with the many other tasks they are dealt on a daily basis, many of which consist of urgent legal matters that understandably are prioritized far above devoting time to recruiting. And then there are the corporate recruiting departments who’s sole responsibilities are talent sourcing, screening, interviewing and setting appointments for hundreds of different locations for their respective companies. Unfortunately, many of these recruiting professionals have up to fifty or more open job acquisitions for ten to twenty different locations they’re individually responsible for, which undoubtedly lead to many great candidates never being contacted, who subsequently accept other offers first. We completely understand all of the moving parts in your business, so we’re designed and geared to offer creative, long term solutions that are simply not easily achievable for organizations’ internal resources. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us and allow us the opportunity to share ways we can assist you. James Maloney Jay D. Bush, CPC DEBRA BUSH Kevin Buck

As Gecko Hospitality (Corporate) recruiters, many of the restaurant managers and chefs contacting us are looking for a new opportunity which pays more money. So, I guess, I have to ask…. Why not ask your boss for a raise first? As a valued manager/chef in the hospitality industry, you play a pivotal role in the seamless operation of your property and guest satisfaction. Asking for a raise is not just about the money; it's a crucial step towards career growth and professional recognition. Employees who advocate for themselves signal to employers their commitment and ambition; two traits highly valued in any organization. By requesting a raise, you not only acknowledge your hard work but also set the stage for further career advancements. Despite the clear benefits, many hospitality managers are reluctant to ask for a raise mainly for fear of rejection. You worry your request might be denied, potentially straining their relationship with your boss. Prepare a strong case highlighting your accomplishments and contributions to the restaurant's success. Don’t underestimate your achievements or feel uncomfortable touting your personal successes. Building your confidence can start with small steps, such as keeping a record of positive feedback and successful initiatives you’ve led. You should conduct your own market research to understand industry standards, pay scales and evaluate how your contributions stack up against those standards. By presenting concrete data, you can better articulate your worth and justify the need for a salary review. Yes, we recruiters would love to place you in a new position (that’s how we get paid). But, are you missing the opportunity to stay with your current company and continue to contribute simply because you haven’t asked for a raise? Reach out to us, at Gecko Hospitality, we know what hospitality positions are paying in your area and we have many open positions looking for talented hospitality professionals like you. #hiring #jobs #hospitality #pennsylvania #resort #club #help #community #headhunter #recruiter #restaurantmanager #readytowork #restaurant #geckohospitality #pennsylvaniarestaurants #coloradorestaurants #iowarestaurants #nebraskarestaurants #delawarerestaurants #restaurant #idahorestaurants #restaurantcareers #chefs #arkansasrestaurants #food

✨ Having job satisfaction is essential for a rewarding career. When we find happiness and meaning in our work, it not only helps us succeed professionally but also has a positive impact on our overall well-being. I feel incredibly fortunate to enjoy the challenges of my role on venue. I definatly never get bored because working on such a wide range of events means our team is having to constantly switch between catering options and setups, keeping us on our toes. However, this week our catering schedule is a little bit quieter, with only a 3 day event starting Friday, so I might finally have the chance to cross some items off my to-do list! #EventCatering #CulinaryExcellence #ChallengingRoles #PassionForFood #JobSatisfaction #CareerFulfillment

Reflecting on the profound impact of everyday interactions. Years ago, as a front desk manager at a newly opened resort, a simple act of kindness led to a life-changing moment. A woman with her infant son approached me, asking to see a guest room. Little did I know, she was the Associate Director in our company’s regional sales office, who would soon be returning to work from maternity leave. Since the resort had opened during her leave, she hadn't been able to attend the resort tours for her team. I felt compelled to give her a full tour, and we ended up spending over an hour exploring the resort together. Her gratitude was overwhelming at the end of our impromptu tour. Months later, after she had returned to work, she approached me at the desk. Remembering our earlier encounter, she thanked me again for the tour, but then asked me a surprising question: had I ever considered a career in group sales? That moment marked the beginning of an incredible journey. A short while later she became the Director of Sales in our regional sales office, and after working in that office as a Group Sales Manager for a few years, I advanced to Associate Director of Sales. Our office became a tight-knit team, many of whom I still call friends today. She remains my mentor, and though our paths diverged as we took on different leadership roles (and eventually we both chose to go back into individual contributor roles to focus more on our families), I will always cherish the years we worked together as some of the best in my career. This experience taught me a valuable lesson: you never know where your next interaction could take you. It could lead to a lifelong friendship, reveal a new career path, or simply brighten someone's day. #CareerJourney #KindnessMatters #UnexpectedOpportunities #thewayyoutreatpeoplematters

The Hospitality Industry: A Mystery or Just Misunderstood? 🤔 With thousands of hotels, resorts, and restaurants around the world actively seeking staff, I find myself puzzled. 🤯 How many hospitality enthusiasts and professionals are on LinkedIn? Surely, it must be countless! They are essential, rewarding, and deeply valued. So why does it feel so complicated to bridge the gap between eager candidates and opportunities? Is it really that hard to find the right match for these vital positions? I believe the hospitality industry deserves a more streamlined approach to talent acquisition—one that connects passionate individuals with the roles that keep this beautiful industry thriving. What are your thoughts? Is this challenge as perplexing to you as it is to me? Let’s discuss how we can make this process better for both employers and job seekers! 💬 #HospitalityIndustry #JobSearch #TalentAcquisition #HousekeepingJobs #FrontOffice #HospitalityCareers #CareerOpportunities #HotelsAndResorts #JobsInHospitality
