“It’s nice to come here and feel supported, and to not feel ashamed or guilty for talking about how I feel.” Here’s how Linc Cymru, in partnership with University of South Wales, is helping to break down barriers to mental health support in Aberbeeg ⤵️ The Happy Café, based at Aberbeeg Community Centre, was initially established in 2019 as a social space to combat loneliness and was socially prescribed by local healthcare providers. However, as mental health concerns grew, the need for more structured support became clear. Pat Tovey, a Linc Cymru tenant, reached out after taking over the centre to ask how we could help. Our Community Engagement Officer Suzy Bowers explains: “We secured funding for a new kitchen to ensure food could be served safely, and helped install solar panels to reduce heating costs, keeping the space open for the community.” The café is a vital resource for the community, combatting isolation for local residents, and we’re proud to support such an important initiative. We hope it serves as a powerful example of what can be achieved when Welsh organisations come together to collaborate and transform mental health support in South Wales. 🎂Celebrating milestones is what life is all about, and the big 100 is certainly one of them! We had great fun celebrating the 100th birthday of our resident, Connie Baulch, at Glyn Anwen Extra Care scheme this month. With an Elvis performer singing hits from the 70s, it was a joy to celebrate with friends, family, staff and residents, and it was lovely to hear more about Connie’s life! 🎈 Born on 1st March 1925, Connie worked as a Newport bus clipper which is how she met her husband, who was a driver. They married and had two children, John and Jennifer, and Connie now has four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren! Jennifer told us, "My mum has always been great fun. After leaving school, she worked at Miss Winnie Day’s shop at the bottom of Brynglas Road. She ran a well-known fruit shop and used to hold themed parties for friends in the Rising Sun on Shaftesbury Street.” Our Extra-Care schemes are places are residents can feel at home, keeping their independence but with support on-hand when they need it. We love celebrating their milestones and we're glad Connie had a great day! Read more here: https://lnkd.in/e4q2aGUg

We're developing affordable apartments for the over 55s in Porthcawl on the site of the iconic Fulgoni's, a near-century old restaurant thats land was sold in 2024. With so much history and memories intertwined on the site, when did the Fulgoni's story begin? It all started when Basilio Fulgoni moved to Porthcawl from Italy in 1910. Originally, they sold ice cream from a horse-drawn cart on Coney Beach. After some time then selling their ice cream in a number of shops and kiosks, they decided to open up their own café in 1926, and he later passed it on to his son, Luigi, who took over the café and ice cream businesses. At one stage, it had become a family franchise, with eight premises in the town! To find out more about Fulgoni's and our new development, visit our website: https://lnkd.in/epfSY89u #Fulgonis #PorthcawlHousing #AffordableHousing #SocialHousingWales
