Chenchen Zhang, The Daniel Jordan Fiddle Foundation public policy fellow for the 2023-24 term at ASU’s Morrison Institute for Public Policy in partnership with the First Place Global Leadership Institute, has completed her white paper. Titled “Exploring the Influence of Zoning Ordinances on the Development of Neuro-Inclusive Communities,” Chenchen dove into the subject with passion and precision. This visionary white paper highlights the role of zoning in the development of more autism-friendly spaces with the goal of changes in public policy for greater inclusivity for all. “Divisiveness often comes from disinformation.” While civic education helps people develop the knowledge base to participate in our democracy, when provided in schools it also hones critical thinking skills, helps with effective communication and debate, and confidence in speaking up. The California School Boards Association pulled together a plan for creating the next generation of leaders who both understand how democracy works and can hone a "collaborative, across-the-aisle dialogue" through civics education: https://shorturl.at/uMSZ4

"CAMPAIGNING FOR THE CONSTITUTION" kicks off this summer's "Campaign Management" course at George Mason University - Schar School of Policy and Government. Our speaker was Dr. Michael Cornfield, a Senior Fellow at The GWU Center for Excellence in Public Leadership. His research and consulting practice focuses on “simulated summits,” three-hour table-top exercises to enhance the political narrating and negotiating skills of students and mid-level government and corporate officers. He is the author of two books: Politics Moves Online: Campaigning and the Internet and The Civic Web: Online Politics and Democratic Values, co-edited with David M. Anderson. He addressed the class on two subjects: 1. The campaign for the U.S. Constitution (and lessons learned); 2. The evolution of "Political Consulting" as a profession. Dr. Cornfield was terrific! And we all learned from your presentation. Thank you.
