Today is #Juneteenth and our #NEOPartner, The Leadership Conference Education Fund reminds us that, "Juneteenth is not just a celebration of freedom; it's a call to action. We must ensure that all voices are heard in our democracy. The fight for the freedom to vote is crucial for safeguarding our rights and building a more just society. For democracy to work, it must include us all." Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/gy-hMtJG

The YMCA Louisiana Youth and Government (Y&G) program is a statewide initiative promoting civic engagement through the YMCA's philosophy of being an organization that is continuously active in exercising social responsibility. This particular program prepares high schoolers for moral and political leadership. Through Y&G, teens learn about and experience government policies first-hand and learn how they can be changemakers to improve their communities. Plus, teens form lasting friendships, benefit from mentors, and sharpen their critical thinking, public speaking and writing skills. The mission of the YMCA Youth & Government program is two-fold: To encourage and foster leadership through service, fellowship, responsibility, and respect for oneself and others among all participants, and To educate and engage students in the process of government from local to national to international so that they become more active participants in their communities. DEMOCRACY MUST BE LEARNED BY EACH GENERATION"

Director, Tricarico Institute for the Business of Law and In-House Counsel | Co-Director, Innovation Center for Law and Technology | Professor from Practice @ New York Law School
Credit to Judge Lippman, Lawrence Buterman, and the whole team at Latham & Watkins for a thorough, thoughtful, and actionable report on the vital topic of combating antisemitism at CUNY, a crown jewel in the public education system of New York. Their recommendation for a revamp of the portal where CUNY students can file complaints about antisemitic or discriminatory behavior and learn of investigations, summarized at page 12, stands out as something CUNY leadership can tackle in short order and as something all organizations can learn from. At Brighton Our World, we often ponder an essential question: "Who will lead us tomorrow?" The answer lies in today's children, and our mission is to nurture these future leaders through compassion, community, and education. BOW is dedicated to building the leaders of tomorrow by instilling the values of generosity and service from a young age. Our programs, such as children helping children, not only teach kids how to give back but also the importance of empathy and understanding. These experiences are foundational in shaping thoughtful, proactive, and caring leaders who will navigate the challenges of the future with grace and determination. By supporting their growth through scholarships, educational initiatives, and community involvement, we ensure that these young minds receive the tools they need to succeed and make a difference. Our aim is not just to develop their academic skills but to foster a sense of responsibility and a commitment to making the world a better place. Join us as we invest in our children today, so they are ready to lead us into tomorrow. This couldn't have surfaced at better time. The time to protect our Universities from politicians is now. Championing the cause for the "Depoliticization of Students Leadership " must be a priority. If you haven't read my work on "Depoliticizing students' leadership: advocating for meritocracy" then you should take a read now. Do tap on the link. Our Universities must be protected from politicians at all cost. https://lnkd.in/dkPpndmg

For #PhilanthropyThursday we want to highlight Kids First Chicago 🏫 Kids First Chicago helps families understand education and policy data so that they can navigate to and advocate for high-quality public schools for their children and communities. They do this through direct services that include one-on-one support, informational events, leadership development opportunities, and community-based convenings and presentations. Their policy priorities align with issues identified by parent leaders in their network; their analysis of publicly available data related to education, census, and life outcomes; and strategic opportunities presented to K1C where parents are invited to the decision-making table on an emerging topic or issue of significance to education in Chicago. They aim to create a system where every kid defies gravity—a system that ensures equitable access to quality schools, funding, and transparent information in all communities. https://lnkd.in/ekqxgVSB
