At Lindahl Reed, we recognize and celebrate Juneteenth and the pivotal role it has in the history of our country.   Juneteenth National Independence Day commemorates June 19, 1865, the day all people living in the United States, including those who were enslaved, were officially granted freedom. President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation became effective on January 1, 1863, but news did not reach the entire country until several years later. On June 19, 1865, U.S. General Gordon Granger and his troops landed in Galveston, Texas, and he announced the federal order proclaiming all enslaved people to be free. Six months later, the states ratified the 13th Amendment abolishing slavery across the United States.   Juneteenth is not only a celebration of freedom, but also serves as a day for each of us to reflect on the importance of freedom, opportunity, equity and access for all. #juneteenth2024 #juneteenth #lindahlreed
