My latest publication just appeared in BMJ Health & Care Informatics! While this is an opportunity to "toot my own horn", I want to emphasize that this is really the brainchild of Hayley Monson, a wickedly smart undergrad student. One of the best parts of being a bibliometrics librarian is working closely with amazing students to advance their ideas, and it was a pleasure to work with Hayley. It is rewarding to see her project come to fruition, and to have contributed to it. What is the future of myopia control? We try to discuss some of what is known for the present day.

To me, numbers and rankings are not just about where we are today, but also about where we could be tomorrow. The SCImago annual rankings and Stanford lists are pivotal in this regard, serving as independent validations by globally recognized organizations. They evaluate us based on established metrics from publicly accessible and accredited databases. The SCImago rankings, in this context, can be seen as the academic equivalent of the Fortune 500 for businesses or the FIFA/ATP rankings in sports. These accolades are not just about celebrating what we've achieved but are also a beacon guiding us towards what we aspire to become. I am incredibly grateful and proud to work alongside an exceptional team of researchers at LVPEI, particularly the remarkable women who consistently strive for excellence. In December's issue of Journal of Neurosurgery, you will find our work on variables affecting the accuracy of sEEG implantation. Key findings: 1. The use of an external stylet before electrode insertion results in significantly reduced target radial error and angular deviation; 2. Target depth error increases in external stylet workflows, as a result of manual measurements introduced; 3. Regardless of planning orthogonal or oblique coverage, it is the entry point angle with respect to the skull surface that contributes the most in target radial errors and angular deviations. We hope our work (powered by 3 experienced functional neurosurgeons Amir Faraji, Philip S. Lee, Mark Richardson and future neurosurgeon S.J. Lee) will promote more accurate sEEG implantations, as well as inspire further improvement of sEEG materials. https://lnkd.in/gx8FuxHq

To be a good surgeon and a good physician, one must constantly balance virtues and behaviors in times of conflict. At the Center for Humanism and Ethics in Surgical Specialties (CHESS), Center Director and trauma surgeon Prioska Kopar, MD, and her colleagues help surgeons recognize and resolve often challenging ethical dilemmas through education, practice, and reflection. In an article recently published in the Annals of Surgery, Kopar and her colleagues highlight educational and professional opportunities at two surgical ethics fellowship programs in the United States. 🚨 New publication alert 🚨 I am excited to share a new editorial for the Arab Journal of Interventional Radiology. Based on the 1989 book by Steven Covey, and inspired by the recent editorial from Prof Mohammad Arabi, this is my advice to become a successful #ClinicianScientist. Being a #clinician is only one aspect of #irad, as #science underpins all our clinical decision making. As clinicians we are time and resource-poor. But, we are in a unique position to know the right clinical questions to ask when designing research projects, which means we have to be the ones to direct science. Some may not agree with one or all of these points. But, if you can master these habits then you are well on the path to a successful research career.
