The journey of women in sports has always been about more than just the game. From the passage of Title IX to the relentless activism seen in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), women's sports are a powerful agent for change. 🟢 Role Models in Action: The WNBA stands out not just for athletic excellence, but for its unwavering commitment to social justice. These incredible athletes, many of whom are Black and queer, use their platforms to advocate for equality, showing young girls that they, too, can be champions for change. 🔴 Breaking Barriers: WNBA players have led the way in activism, from protesting police violence to supporting voting rights. Their courage to speak out, even at personal risk, teaches young girls the importance of standing up for what’s right. 🔵 Creating a Legacy: By integrating activism into their brand, the WNBA is creating a future where sports and social justice go hand in hand. The league’s actions have boosted visibility and support, and also shown the power of unity and community. 🟡 Inspiring the Future: When young girls see WNBA players fighting for justice and achieving success, they learn that they can pursue their passions while making a difference. These are the women who kicked down the door so I can walk inside." - Caitlin Clark As a fellow Iowan, I am incredibly proud to see Caitlin Clark making waves in the WNBA. Reflecting on her words, it's clear how the paths carved by pioneers in women’s sports have led to monumental changes not just on the courts but in every arena of life. After over 50 years since the passage of Title IX, a landmark piece of Civil Rights legislation, we've seen a dramatic expansion in opportunities for women. This law knocked down barriers and opened doors to dreams once considered out of reach, leading to a twelve-fold increase in sports participation by girls and nearly tripling the number of women participating in college athletics. These strides paved the way for the creation of the WNBA and other professional women's leagues, transforming the landscape of sports and society. Decades later, we continue to reap the benefits of such opportunities, recognizing that there is still more change needed, more barriers to break, and more dreams to chase. At Fantastic Humans, we celebrate every individual who pushes the boundaries, who fights for equality, and who inspires the next generation to reach even further. For the white women and men focused on acknowledging and ensuring the unique gifts and perspectives black women inherently bring to the leadership table remain a part of the systemic antiracist transformation our societies need more than ever, ways we can help are by supporting: A COHORT LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM with skill-building, strategy, navigating racism/sexism, authentic leadership, and fundraising sessions; informal gatherings for connection, celebration, and play; and mentorship and coaching. RETREATS that support the health and well-being of Black women leaders, and prioritize self-care, reflection, rejuvenation, and personal growth. Establishing a GENERAL FUND, that is unrestricted and dedicated to supporting Black women leaders. Funds can be used for healing, executive coaching, training, activities, events, and infrastructure. Creating LEARNING INSTITUTES for graduate-level programs tailored to Black women leaders, including management, leadership, and conflict management skills. TRAINING for FUNDERS and PHILANTHROPIC LEADERS that helps them remove the barriers to Black women leaders in fundraising. REGULAR CONVENINGS and EVENTS exclusively for Black women leaders that promotes joy, play, creativity, and celebration.

All. Of. This. Recently experienced many of her points at a broken and confused organization. Protecting my peace AND doing what was best for patients was not valued, appreciated, or encouraged. Allegedly I was hired for my expertise but those that could benefit made the choice to not listen. This year, my prayers and hope are aimed at the black men in leadership positions at corporations. Wanting to be viewed as strong and protective, I have experienced them fold under the pressures of white leaders. Speaking of having integrity and exhibiting such are two different things. Talk can be very cheap when you have employees looking to you for guidance and advocacy yet receive blame and zero support. Black women in corporate America: keep your head up! ✊🏾
