This is gonna rock a few boats. If Housing 1st programs cannot get with compassionate care, voluntary services and respecting the people they serve without bias for drug use or mental health challenges. Then, GIVE THE MONEY BACK. It's that simple. All the Housing 1st grants, shelter grants are all about Housing and care 1st. That means we have to work on ourselves as providers, unpack our biases, make an effort to learn more about these issues. It means we will have hard conversations with heart, that we will not push our personal/political, religious/work agendas onto people even if it means our numbers of success are low. Being mean to people, judging them, using rude tone is never going to help someone heal. Please don't take our work frustrations out on the people we serve. #HousingFirst #HealingCentered #Respect #SurvivorLed #Education #bestpractices #druguse #peersupport
Excellent post. Brutally honest and true
I totally agree and I'm sure Martha L. would agree too. We have to be in a caring and non judgemental space
