☕️ Elmhurst 1925 has launched a new line of dairy-free Cashew Creamers, the first plant-based creamers using cashews as a base. Available in sweet cream, cinnamon churro, caramel brûlée, and unsweetened, these creamers contain minimal ingredients, no more than 1g of sugar, and 15 calories per serving. They are made from whole cashews, gluten-free oats, and pectin, avoiding artificial additives. These creamers are Non-GMO, gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, and produced sustainably. This April will be 9 years since I stopped eating meat, so over the next few weeks I will be sharing some practical tips&tricks that helped me when I turned plant-based 💪🏼 First on: 5 things I wish I’ve heard when I started eating plant-based 🌱 🥦 Combining a minimum of 2 plant-based protein sources ensures our body gets all 9 essential amino acids from our food - it is called protein complementarity. The most common combinations include grains + legumes (i.e. beans on toast) or seeds + legumes (a salad with chickpeas and sunflower seeds) 😛 🥛Plant-based dairy alternatives don’t naturally contain calcium or vitamin B12, so try to look at the food label and choose the ones that are fortified. 🍋Iron found in plant-based products is not so easily absorbed by our body, and vitamin C aids its absorption. Adding fruits, vegetables and herbs such as parsley can increase the rate of plant-based iron absorption! 🍜Tofu can seem a bit dull, but adding umami flavour (such as miso paste, soy sauce or vegetable broth) or turning it into high-protein pancake can help you fall in love with tofu! 🥄Soy yogurt/soy milk and dairy milk/yogurts have comparable amount of protein - around 4g/100ml for milk and around 3.5g/100g of yogurt (this value is considerably higher for Greek yogurt and dairy cheese). Dutch start-up Fooditive Group has developed a new low-calorie, low-carb sweetener that could be suitable for consumers following the keto diet. Keto-Fructose is currently going through FDA GRAS assessment for initial launch in the USA, however the product could also expand into Europe. Keto-Fructose is a natural monosaccharide sweetener derived from fermented apples and pears.
