In most cases I advise D365 end-users not to hire consultants from a Microsoft Partner. It just isn't as effective. The role is very different. The required skill set is different. There are better options elsewhere. And they just don't stick around as long. This might not be a view you've ever heard before. But data across more than 100 permanent Dynamics placements into end-users tells me I am right. I advocate end-users hiring D365 professionals that know their business or industry. A huge Dynamics 365 talent pool exists on LinkedIn that remains out of the clutches of most recruiters. They don't work at Microsoft Partners. They don't appear on generic LinkedIn searches. They don't have job titles that make them easy to find. They don't work in the IT industry. They often have very few connections. They often have no MS certifications. But looking at the D365 F&O end user market in the US for example. Across 1,200 live projects there are over 13,000 dedicated D365 resources employed full-time. Within this pool you find such an array of niche D365 skills (from Production Control SME's to those that have implemented a quote-to-cash-to-make solution) as well as real hands-on 'cradle to grave' project experience. This is the talent pool you want to be looking at if you are an end user looking to hire. I'd argue that also MS Partners could benefit from a closer look at candidates in this pool too. But here’s the reality — even the most technically qualified candidate can struggle if they don’t align with your company’s culture and values. A strong cultural fit isn’t just a “nice-to-have”—it’s crucial for job satisfaction and team cohesion most importantly. The best hires often bring a balance of solid technical skills and an ability to mesh with your team’s dynamics. Sometimes, a candidate with slightly less technical experience but a great cultural fit can be the long-term game-changer your team needs.
