LiveOak Fiber Expands High-Speed Broadband with New Investment LiveOak Fiber, founded in 2022, has secured additional funding through a partnership with InfraRed Capital Partners and MEAG, the asset manager of Munich Re. This new investment will accelerate LiveOak’s mission to provide high-speed broadband to underserved areas in Florida and Georgia. With over 50% of its planned network already completed in Northwest Florida, LiveOak is bridging the digital divide, having deployed $200 million and constructed over 1,000 miles of fibre. CEO Jody Craft emphasised the company’s commitment to driving economic growth and enhancing quality of life in the region. Building on recent $250M financing from J.P. Nascent fiber-to-the-home provider Novos Fiber is expanding into its second market in McKinney, Texas, a move that is fueled by a $20 million private equity-backed investment. Last November, Novos announced its debut market in Arlington, Texas, where it set aside more than $20 million for its network build. The company this week said it plans to invest an additional $25 million in Arlington and it already has live customers there. Construction in McKinney, a suburb of the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area, began several months ago and Novos expects to offer services to “Phase 1” residents by end of February. https://lnkd.in/gd5ueQua In 2001, I was one of the earliest pioneers in the outdoor DAS space having designed, built and operated the very first neutral host networks throughout the canyons of Southern California and eventually, building ODAS throughout 40 US States and 2 Canadian provinces for nearly every major wireless service provider and new market entrant. In more than 12 years, there were none that we couldn't get done. It's almost surreal that CCI is surrendering 10,000 to 12,000 contracted sites considering the time, level of effort and soft costs both CCI and their anchor tenants spent, only to give up because they were unable to resolve their permitting and deployment problems. No doubt, ODAS is a difficult business to scale, but every problem has a solution which is why every toolbox needs a hammer. It sounds like CCI just lost theirs somewhere along the way. This marks the end of an era for greenfield, build to suit neutral host, CRAN architectures and the beginning of brownfield DRAN, ORAN, Cloud RAN and software defined radio networks built as shareable, Open Access mobile data networks. Subscribers no longer care which networks they connect to, as long as they can connect and building three separate networks to serve one customer base is a fast race to the bottom. Using existing fiber and infrastructure that's already there to build one common network they all can share means farewell to the neutral host, hello to Open Access.
