Ok, I’m sorry to do this… but we have #ai in our #nuclear enterprises already. What?! Yeah. If you count #ai as those yesteryear symbolic logic systems that’s what ballistic missile defense is. Sensors, networks, and all the data that goes to human decision makers is run on #ai. But now we don’t want to call those things “ai”. Only #ML systems are AI. That’s not true. So before everyone makes these claims about Skynet and everything going crazy- please research how NC2 works (and for which country) and then whether there is *desire* to change that process *and* the tech. I know it isn't a jaw-dropping/headline grabbing piece of click bait, but let's be real folks. Symbolic logic "AI" systems are on weapons systems, the nuclear enterprise, command and control networks, and much more. Where #machinelearning makes sense, where it can be tested and deployed with appropriate risk assessments, militaries will do so. The question is where "makes sense" lives. But hyperbolic handwaving isn't going to help us to have good discussions nor evidence based policy.
