This International Biodiversity Day, the theme is "Be part of the Plan". It calls everyone to action, to halt and reverse biodiversity loss. Over the past 10 years, the ERC has invested €469 million in over 230 projects dedicated to biodiversity This research has built innovative models and databases and delivered practical tools, scientific insights, and policy recommendations. More than 80% of these projects align with the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, with a strong emphasis on ecosystem restoration. Nearly 140 projects focus on this critical area, spotlighting forests, agroecosystems, and marine ecosystems. Check out our latest Insight on the Carbon Guild Wayfinder: carbonguild.com Biodiversity Credits: A Beginner's Guide to Ecosystem Investment—published this week by our team—dives into the emerging role of biodiversity credits in driving meaningful, scalable conservation. As global biodiversity loss accelerates, new financial tools like biodiversity credits are creating opportunities for companies to invest in positive biodiversity outcomes, from restored habitats to protected species. Unlike traditional biodiversity offsets, which mitigate site-specific impacts, biodiversity credits offer a broader pathway, empowering stakeholders to support ecosystem restoration on a larger scale. Read more on how biodiversity credits could reshape conservation investments for a more resilient future! #BiodiversityCredits #ConservationFinance #EcosystemRestoration #GreenAnalytics #SustainableInvesting #Biodiversity #EnvironmentalImpact #CarbonGuild #Wayfinder #Sustainability #NatureBasedSolutions

🌱 Monitoring pollinator populations is crucial in combating biodiversity loss. Data collected by the Bugs Matter survey suggests that the abundance of flying insects has fallen by 64% between 2004 and 2022. By improving how we monitor, measure, and manage biodiversity, we can make a significant impact in preserving our planet’s ecosystems. 🌍🐝

🌍✨ The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework has four long-term goals for 2050 related to the 2050 Vision for biodiversity.🌍✨ GOAL A : Protect and Restore GOAL B: Prosper with Nature GOAL C: Share Benefits Fairly GOAL D: Invest and Collaborate These Four overarching goals to be achieved by 2050 focus on ecosystem and species health including to halt human-induced species extinction, the sustainable use of biodiversity, equitable sharing of benefits, and on implementation and finance to include closing the biodiversity finance gap of $700 billion per year.. 🌿💧 But what does it really mean for us? 🤔 The framework sets bold targets to halt biodiversity loss, restore ecosystems, and ensure that future generations can enjoy the wonders of nature just as we do today. 🐘🌱 Join our upcoming webinar to learn and engage: https://lnkd.in/dXUWEtmx.. Come discover what the four major goals are, why they matter, and how YOU can be part of this global movement! 🚀 #KunmingMontrealGoals #SAYouth4Biodiversity #fromawarenesstoaction #FromPolicyToAction #YouthIntoAction #FromAgreementToYouthActions #GYBN #Youth4Biodiversity

How do we define a “unit of nature”? Important review of the complexity inherent in defining biodiversity credits and their role in contributing to a #NaturePositive future.
Biodiversity is incredibly complex, so how do we define a unit of nature? A biodiversity credit market could help fund nature recovery, but there are also risks of relying on offsetting. In a new review, researchers develop a framework to interrogate the challenges that come with abstracting nature to a unit, and how units of nature could be misleading or unrepresentative of true biodiversity gains. "There may be a role for biodiversity markets in leveraging funding for nature that would otherwise be unreachable, but markets can only ever be one part of the solution for delivering effective and equitable conservation." - E.J. Today is World Biodiversity Day! The theme this year is: Be Part of the Plan. It is a call to action for all to halt and reverse the loss of biodiversity by supporting the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, also referred to as the The Biodiversity Plan. It is a day to not just spread awareness but most importantly, actually start building back the biodiversity around us. Why not start by planting native flora and fauna in your garden or installing bee and insect hotels. You can also make an impact by reducing shopping waste and starting a compost. Every little bit counts! Click here to learn more about how you can help achieve these goals: https://lnkd.in/dxWaa5d @UNBiodiversity #IDB2024 #BiodiversityPlan #PartOfThePlan

Just wanted to add some points as this is a very important topic - not only for us right now but for all future generations. Understanding Biodiversity Key Aspects: 1. **Genetic Diversity**: Variety of genes within species, crucial for adaptation and disease resistance. 2. **Species Diversity**: Variety of species in an area, each playing a role in ecological balance. 3. **Ecosystem Diversity**: Variety of ecosystems like forests, wetlands, and coral reefs, providing essential services and habitats. Importance: - **Ecosystem Services**: Supports air and water purification, pollination, and soil formation. - **Economic Value**: Vital for agriculture, fisheries, forestry, and tourism. - **Cultural Value**: Enhances human well-being and recreational activities. - **Resilience**: Diverse ecosystems are more resilient to disturbances. Threats: - **Habitat Destruction**: Due to deforestation, urbanization, and agriculture. - **Climate Change**: Disrupts habitats and species' life cycles. - **Pollution**: Harms wildlife and ecosystems. - **Overexploitation**: Overfishing, hunting, and logging. - **Invasive Species**: Outcompete native species and alter ecosystems. Conservation Efforts: - **Protected Areas**: National parks and reserves. - **Legislation**: Laws like the Endangered Species Act. - **Sustainable Practices**: Sustainable agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. - **Restoration**: Rehabilitating ecosystems. - **Education**: Raising public awareness. Preserving biodiversity is crucial for a healthy planet and sustainable future.
