This International Biodiversity Day, the theme is "Be part of the Plan". It calls everyone to action, to halt and reverse biodiversity loss. Over the past 10 years, the ERC has invested €469 million in over 230 projects dedicated to biodiversity This research has built innovative models and databases and delivered practical tools, scientific insights, and policy recommendations. More than 80% of these projects align with the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, with a strong emphasis on ecosystem restoration. Nearly 140 projects focus on this critical area, spotlighting forests, agroecosystems, and marine ecosystems. 🌱 Monitoring pollinator populations is crucial in combating biodiversity loss. Data collected by the Bugs Matter survey suggests that the abundance of flying insects has fallen by 64% between 2004 and 2022. By improving how we monitor, measure, and manage biodiversity, we can make a significant impact in preserving our planet’s ecosystems. 🌍🐝
