Did you know that in 2021, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander women working full-time, year-round, earned only 65 cents for every dollar earned by white, non-Hispanic men? This significant pay gap impacts Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities. Here’s how you can help raise awareness and support our NHPI communities: - Raise Awareness: Educate others about the pay disparities faced by NHPI individuals. Share information through social media and community discussions. - Advocate for Policy Change: Promote change by supporting legislation that aims to close pay gaps. - Support NHPI-Owned Businesses: Spend money or time at businesses owned by NHPI individuals to help strengthen their economic position (and encourage friends to join too). #payequity #paygap #NHPIequalpayday #NHPI #equalpay #diversity #inclus

Today is #EqualPayDay in Ontario. What does this mean? On average, women need to work 15.5 months (so, an extra 3.5 months into 2024) to earn what Ontario men earned in 2023 (on average). There is a 32% pay gap on average for women in Ontario (it is much wider for women with disabilities, and immigrant women, Indigenous women, and women of colour). This is not new or getting better: The average 32% pay gap has existed for THREE DECADES. That 32% figure is just an average; it gets worse. The Pay Equity Commission states that the gender pay gaps are: - 38% for racialized women; - 42% for First Nations, Inuit and Black women; and, - 43% for women with disabilities. Additionally, the gap is also worse for elderly women and women who are members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community. The pay gap isn't limited to one industry, career, profession, position, or demographic; it affects ALL women. https://lnkd.in/gaPdAaw7 https://lnkd.in/gXQcS4bw

Do you want to know what really annoys me? When you point out that there's still change to be made, and people say "Oh but it's much better than it was", or, even more annoyingly "Oh but there are countries where it's even worse, NZ isn't so bad!" 🙄 . Being less shit at something isn't really a flex, is it? We all know we've come a long way. We can be pleased with progress while still striving to do better. Let's keep fighting the good fight and not get complacent. #WorkplaceWellbeing #PayEquity #GenderPayGap https://lnkd.in/gz9F-PtV

Dr. Veerendra Mishra writes how the Union Budget for 2024–25 is a powerful testament to the government’s dedication to achieving a balanced approach between high capital expenditures and essential welfare spending. This budget is meticulously crafted to empower every segment of society, driving socio-economic advancement across the nation. With a focus on ensuring that every Indian—regardless of religion, caste, gender, or age—can make significant strides towards their goals, this budget highlights a commitment to inclusivity and progress. Notably, the increase in budget allocation for the Social Justice Department promises to engage the most vulnerable groups constructively, including senior citizens, transgender individuals, SCs and OBCs, and those struggling with drug dependence. Together, let’s embrace this progressive step towards a more equitable and thriving society! Want to talk about the Gender Benefits Gap? Because I do. Societal and structural inequalities lead to some startling statistics for women in the welfare system, and this should not be something we continue to battle with in 2024. I wanted flying cars and food replicators by now, not the continuation of more and more women living in poverty, being paid less than men, and being trapped in gendered, unpaid labour. If you want to celebrate #internationalwomensday2024 , do so by getting angry about the missed opportunities for millions of low-income women. Then, help us do something about it by maximising income. Policy in Practice

Globally, women perform 76% of unpaid care work—3 times the amount as men. On this first-ever International #CareDay, we commit to reducing unpaid gender care gaps, providing social protections and decent work for care workers, and addressing harmful social norms that prevent women from equitable participation in our economies and societies. Improving the economic security of women will increase economic opportunity for all. ⚧ Read on #LabourDay #MayDay theme is "Social Justice and Decent Work for All” but then why every day is an unpaid Labour Day for most women? asks CNS founder and feminist leader Shobha Shukla. Where is this social justice and #LabourRights for women? As per current estimates, over 75% of the world’s total unpaid care work is done by women. Unpaid care work refers ‘to all unpaid services provided within a household for its members, including routine housework, child care, care of the elderly and other household members’. Read insights from #SouthSudan's Member of Parliament and former Agriculture Minister Betty Ogwaro too. https://lnkd.in/g-5QMVdB #LaborDay #LabourDay2024 #LaborDay2024 #unpaidcarework #UnpaidCarer #unpaid #carework #genderjustice #womensrights #genderinequality #inequality #LaborRights #violenceagainstwomen #endviolenceagainstwomen #genderbasedviolence #genderequality #humanrights

Must read! Wonderful collaboration of WomenLift Health and Amref Health Africa / Afrique de l'Ouest. Here are some of my favorite quotes: Women are the backbone of health. Protecting them from the continued injustice of unequal pay will bring us closer to creating a healthier, more equitable world. Addressing this injustice is not just the right or moral thing to do, it is a strategic and economic imperative that will impact the economy as well as quality and access to health services for millions of people. We must take bold and decisive action to address the reasons behind the pay gap, putting our money where our mouths are. Women can't wait, change needs to happen now! #GenderEquityPay #PayGap #HumanRightsIssues https://lnkd.in/gT8Qz3ih

This #internationalwomensday we wanted to highlight that paying our dedicated team fairly in a traditionally underpaid sector is one of our core values. Here at Raised In we’re proud to be a company founded by women, with over 80 women in our team and now with an all-female non-executive board. We’ve been a Real Living Wage accredited employer since we opened our doors and we are proud to say we are continuing that commitment. We believe more needs to be done by employers across the board to close the gender pay gap. This is why, alongside paying at least the Real Living Wage, we also offer our team 50% off at our nurseries – as well as an enhanced maternity package above the government’s statutory requirement. We encourage all businesses to consider what more they can do to help close the gender pay gap. #socialenterprise #peopleoverprofit #reallivingwage #wherefuturesflourish #womeninbusiness #givingback #socialentrepreneurs #supportlocal #circulareconomy #triplebottomline #socent #socialenterpriseuk #raisedin #sociallyconscious #raisedinbristol #businessesthatgiveback #ethicalbusiness #sociallyminded #livingwage #communityfocused #communityinterestcompany #communityinterest #makeadifference #changemakers #socialimpact #bethechange #genderpaygap #IWD2024 #livingwagefoundation

I am incredibly proud and honoured to be part of the Living Wage Scotland's International Women's Day video. Cleaning industry typically works on a low wage, minimum wage and also below-minimum wages. Some people even are not employed but working on a self-employed basis or even worse, gets paid cash in hand and get various costs deducted from their wages. In this case it works out that they are not getting paid even the minimum wage! I know a lot of women who are in these situations or previously have been in this situations. Sometimes it is hard to think that people are OK to pay cleaning staff cash in hand and don’t even care about people getting paid the "fair" wage. All I want to do in my business is to create a fair and safe workplace for all my staff, as we employ 90% women, hopefully I am doing my part in creating a better workplace for women! #Edinburgh #cleaning #commercialcleaning #teambuilding #excellentstaff #livingwage #team #management #communication #business #teamwork
In the run up to International Women’s Day, we are highlighting inspiring women within the Living Wage network in Scotland. Research shows that 3 in 5 low paid jobs are held by women (60%) Perfect Cleaning Solutions Limited Limited illustrates the transformative effects of the Living Wage on women, businesses, and society. Owner Sarah Aoki is committed to paying all her staff the Living Wage, which is especially powerful in industries like cleaning, where low pay and precarious employment conditions are prevalent. Huge thanks to Sarah and her team, and also FoSho STUDIOS who created the video for us. #LivingWage #IWD2024 #InspireInclusion
