In the context of the Commission's new mandate, we are going to explore meaningful insights on what is happening in the European #energy industry. Today, we start with the Netherlands and see how they are integrating Carbon Capture and Storage (#CCS), an emerging technology that aims to reduce CO2 emissions in industrial production, in their NECP. Specifically, they: 🔹 Included CCS also in the National Energy System Plan; 🔸 Aligned with the EU's Net Zero Industry Act (#NZIA), which mandates a CO2 injection capacity of 50 megatons per year by 2030; 🔹 Launched projects that will expand their CO2 infrastructure; 🔸 Promote CO2 reduction through their SDE++ subsidy scheme. ☀As individuals, adopting solar panels and electric vehicles is a step in the right direction, but on their own, they won't stop the rise in global temperatures. ➡Business Net-Zero Targets Many businesses are setting ambitious climate targets, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050, and are currently developing strategies to meet these goals. ➡Emissions Reduction One of the methods used to reach these targets is reducing emissions, which includes implementing point-source carbon capture at facilities with local emissions. But this is not enough. ➡Residual Emissions Also, despite efforts to switch to renewable energy, there will still be residual, historic emissions in the air. Addressing these emissions requires carbon dioxide removal technologies. ➡Role of Direct Air Capture (DAC) DAC is a promising and important technology for managing the legacy emissions that remain after operational changes and energy transitions. #directaircapture #netzero #carboncapture
