What Lies Ahead for Europe’s Competitiveness: Insights from Draghi’s Report The long-awaited report by Mario Draghi on the future of European competitiveness was released earlier this week. 📊 Overall, the report identifies the following high-level directions:  - Europe has faced prolonged slow growth, resulting in a widening GDP gap with the US, driven largely by a slowdown in productivity. This is primarily due to Europe’s lag in the tech sector. 🖥️ - Fragmentation of the Single Market and slow decision-making further hinder competitiveness. 🏛️ - Europe’s ambitions to digitalize, decarbonize, and enhance defence capacity are expensive and may require scaling down some goals. 🌍 The report lays out the overarching vision of a new strategy to boost competitiveness in key sectors. In order to do so, Europe must: - Close the innovation gap with world competitors 🌐 - Align decarbonization with competitiveness 🌱 - Increase security and reduce dependencies 🛡️ Our colleagues Ignacio Guibert Suárez and Lucia Rivas García went through the report and highlighted several insights in the areas of #sustainability #mobility #defence #governance #innovation and #finance. Have a look below at our summary! 👇

⚡The second episode of logos investigates, the series in which we analyse the approach to Carbon Capture and Storage (#CCS) in National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs), is dedicated to Italy.   This technology is crucial for the country's climate goals, particularly in hard-to-abate industries like steel, cement, and chemicals. CCS also plays a vital role in the #energy sector, ensuring a reliable electricity supply as the country shifts to renewables and producing #lowcarbon “blue hydrogen”.   Italy has the potential to become a leader in CCS in Southern Europe, precisely thanks to its: 🔹Geological conditions favour CCS, with many depleted gas fields ideal for CO2 storage; 🔸Key sites like the Ravenna and Jonio Hubs offer significant storage capacities; 🔹Partnership with France and Greece in the Callisto Mediterranean #CO2 Network, creating an integrated CO2 capture, transport, and storage system across southern Europe; 🔸Recent legal reforms that aim to streamline CCS project approvals and operations.    In fact, a market survey by Eni and Snam identified a potential for capturing up to 30 MtCO2 per year by 2030, highlighting CCS’s role in Italy’s industrial strategy.    ➡️ If you want to know more, join us at the European EnerGreenDeal Conference on December 12th 2024, in Brussels, and stay tuned for our next insight on Sweden, Finland, and Denmark's ambitious climate policies.   Read the complete article here: https://lnkd.in/emgQ3qXi

💡 Welcome to a new logos series on Carbon Capture and Storage! In the context of the Commission's new mandate, we are going to explore meaningful insights on what is happening in the European #energy industry. Today, we start with the Netherlands and see how they are integrating Carbon Capture and Storage (#CCS), an emerging technology that aims to reduce CO2 emissions in industrial production, in their NECP. Specifically, they: 🔹 Included CCS also in the National Energy System Plan; 🔸 Aligned with the EU's Net Zero Industry Act (#NZIA), which mandates a CO2 injection capacity of 50 megatons per year by 2030; 🔹 Launched projects that will expand their CO2 infrastructure; 🔸 Promote CO2 reduction through their SDE++ subsidy scheme. Positioning itself as a leader in achieving #netzero emissions, the Netherlands is focusing on market incentives, cross-border collaborations, and strategic projects to promote CCS into its national climate strategy. 🔍 Read more in our latest insight and stay tuned for more to come: https://lnkd.in/ek_cMV-z

Never before had demographic studies of the EU’s #defence, #aeronautics and #space sectors taken into account #equality, #diversity and #inclusion (ED&I) considerations. So when the European Commission launched the project to gauge such considerations throughout the EU, we were there to communicate the survey to interested stakeholders—and its conclusions. 📌 Have a read at how we did it: https://lnkd.in/dHyg2CPA #StrategicCommunications
