Research Spotlight: “Gender bias in performance feedback” Eradicating gender inequality remains a formidable global challenge. Women's feedback regarding their work environment can serve as a valuable tool in tackling this issue, notably by informing performance reviews. However, existing experiments predominantly examine gender bias in either giving or receiving feedback in isolation. This study, conducted by the Wheeler Institute for Business and Development, delves into this phenomenon through online exploration, investigating its impact on feedback type, interpretation, and decision-making processes. https://ow.ly/u6g750QLuq9 #GenderBias #WomensHistoryMonth #InternationalWomensDay

“Achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls is the unfinished business of our time, and the greatest human rights challenge in our world” (Guterres, 2018). While nowadays more women than men are currently enrolled in high education, women still are paid less, still are less represented in top management positions and still are less engaged in paid work, leading that globally, the gender gap remains. As per the last World Economic Forum global #gendergap report, the findings are alarming: - no country has yet achieved full #genderequality; - at current pace, it will take 162 years to close the Political Empowerment #gendergap , 169 years for the Economic Participation and Opportunity #gendergap; - women make up almost half (49.3%) of total employment across non-STEM occupations, but just 29.2% of all #stem workers, with only 17.8% high-level leadership roles representation. Neverthless, and against the bias, the barriers, the gender violence, women persist. Let's today celebrate those women around us that inspire us and motivate us to....persist. #internationalwomensday #genderequality #closethegap

About 4equality project: #WomenInSTEM #EgalitateDeȘanse #Inovație #Știință #Tehnologie #Educație ,,,,4 Ways To Tackle Gender Discrimination In The Workplace Societal roles for men and women have become far less rigid over the last few decades. In the US, women now hold 40% of all management positions and the average number of hours that fathers spend on childcare per week has risen from 2.5 to 8 hours in the past 40 years. Despite these advances, gender discrimination in the workplace persists, especially in ‘traditionally masculine’ jobs like finance, tech, and engineering. High-level leadership positions continue to be predominately occupied by men, with women holding less than a third of corporate board seats and only 8.2% of CEO positions in the S&P 500 companies. At the current rate, the UN estimates that it may take over 200 years to achieve full gender equality and another 140 years to reach gender parity in leadership.'' The latest report from the World Economic Forum on the global gender gap shows that while progress has been made, there is still much work to be done to achieve gender equality. The slight narrowing of the gender gap to 68.5% in 2024 is a positive sign, but the fact that women are still underrepresented in senior leadership roles is concerning. According to LinkedIn data cited in the report, the share of women being hired into senior leadership roles has been steadily declining since 2022. This is a clear indication that more needs to be done to ensure that women have equal opportunities to advance in their careers. In order to address this issue, companies can consider investing in upskilling programs, implementing skills-based hiring practices, and providing resources for caregiving. By taking these steps, organizations can help to elevate more women to senior positions and work towards closing the gender gap in leadership. It is essential that we continue to push for gender equality in the workplace and create a more inclusive environment where everyone has the opportunity to succeed. Let's use this data as a call to action to drive positive change and create a more equitable future for all. Awareness is the first step towards change. We can do better. #GenderEquality #DiversityandInclusion #LeadershipDevelopment

Society often tends to idolize and revere men, while women may be overlooked or undervalued. But women deserve not just acknowledgment, but genuine respect for their contributions, perspectives, and capabilities. They should be looked up to and idolized not for meeting some predefined gender stereotype, but for their individual achievements and qualities. But let's be clear... equality is not about diminishing the worth or contributions of men; rather, it's about recognizing the inherent worth and potential of all individuals regardless of gender. When women are valued and respected as much as men, it benefits everyone. It fosters a more inclusive and equitable society where everyone can thrive based on their merits and abilities, rather than arbitrary characteristics like gender. Achieving such a culture requires concerted efforts at various levels: from policy changes promoting gender equality in education and employment to challenging ingrained stereotypes and biases in media and everyday interactions. It necessitates empowering women economically, socially, and politically, ensuring they have equal opportunities to succeed and lead. Such a culture benefits not only women but society as a whole, fostering greater diversity, innovation, and social cohesion. So... how are you going to help change the culture? #YoubelongInSTEM #WomenSTEMTogether #STEM #WomenInSTEM #WomenInScience #WomenInTechnology #WomenInEngineering #WomenInMath #Steminist #StemCareers #StemLife #EmpowerHer #StemWomen #GirlsInStem #WomenInTech #StemAdvocate #WomenEmpowerWomen #WomenWhoWork #WomensEmpowerment #WomenSupportingWomen

Why do some women conform more to stereotypical gender norms while others do not? A new study by Dr Uta Bolt (Helena Uta Bolt, PhD), Assistant Professor in Economics delves into this question by examining essays written by 11-year-old girls back in 1969. Using machine learning the research links these norms to later life outcomes. This insight is crucial in promoting gender equality and creating a more equitable society. “I was drawn to this study because gender conformity significantly influences women's decisions about work, yet there is a lack of data as it is hard to measure. I wanted to bridge this gap.” says Uta. Find out more and watch the full film: https://brnw.ch/21wL6oy

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 🌍👫 #Davos2024 Insights The 54𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐮𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐃𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐬 has brought to the forefront a key aspect of gender parity: 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐞𝐧. 🤔 How often do you hear in your DEI work the common misconception that women-only leadership programs are the best solution to achieving gender equality? Well, they do not fully address the systemic changes needed for true gender parity. 🔑 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐦𝐞𝐧'𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐤𝐞𝐲? 1️⃣ 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐛𝐢𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐬 - by being actively involved, they can help to reshape organizational cultures and societal norms that often unconsciously favor men. 2️⃣ H𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 - achieving gender parity requires a holistic approach. When men are actively involved, the focus shifts from solely empowering women to transforming the underlying societal and organizational structures. 3️⃣ 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 - by involving men, it highlights that gender equality is not just a women's issue but a shared responsibility. After all "𝒄𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒐𝒎𝒊𝒄 𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝒈𝒂𝒑𝒔 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒖𝒏𝒍𝒐𝒄𝒌 𝒂 “𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝒅𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒅” 𝒐𝒇 $172 𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒈𝒍𝒐𝒃𝒂𝒍 𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒐𝒎𝒚..." 🚫 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐤𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧-𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐬 1️⃣ 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 - excluding men means missing out on building allyship and understanding. Not inclusive by default. 2️⃣ 𝐔𝐧𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞𝐬 - women-only programs often focus on helping women navigate existing structures, rather than changing the structures themselves. 🔮 I can’t wait for the outcomes of this panel, as they promise to bring fresh perspectives and strategies that can be implemented globally. Could the insights and recommendations from Davos catalyze significant change? 💬 What are your thoughts? #GenderParity #DEI #WorldEconomicForum #Inclusion #Leadership
