My daughter just returned from an 18-month volunteer service mission. Needless to say, we are thrilled to have her back home with us, but also, I noticed a big change in her. She is still the same bubbly, energetic person she has always been, but after focusing on a singular goal for such a long period of time, she is much more mature, more effective of a teacher and more confident in herself.
In business, as in life, when we are able to dedicate ourselves to a singular focus, we see massive improvements. As we strive to improve our businesses, we are much more successful when we can eliminate the noises and the distractions around us.
Although we may not be able to focus on just one thing for 18-months, even establishing focus periods every day or every week can help us to be better. When we are trying to do too much, everything suffers. Instead, focus on what is most important to you or on what has the potential to provide the biggest impact.
