Our Washington office recently helped refurbish the mechanical and controls systems in the McKinney Center building. Owned by the Central District Community Preservation and Development Authority, the building was in rough shape after years of neglect. We worked on boilers, VFD, AHUs, and updated the building controls to help make the facility functional and comfortable for the CDCPDA to move in and being their important work for the Seattle community. This building is proof that you don't have to tear down and rebuild from the ground up. If you are looking for refurbishments or improvements on an old facility in Washington, reach out to us to help you find the solution that will work best! #CDCPDA #McKinneyCenter #HVACequiment #BuildingControls #BuildingAutomation

In the aftermath of the Grenfell tragedy, new regulations mean that for high-rise and other multi-occupancy residential buildings, clear and current information that can aid life-saving efforts must be housed within a Secure Information Box (SIB) that adheres to stringent specifications, and which is easily accessible in an emergency. But what does ‘easily accessible’ mean? Ask any fire officer and they’ll tell you that it needs to be in the most logical and obvious location for the fire brigade when they attend. And that is often at the main entrance door. Guidance says: • It should be in a clear unobstructed area accessible for Fire & Rescue Services; • It should be in close proximity to other systems or equipment that may be used e.g. rising main inlets etc; • It can be located internally or externally but in a well-lit area; • If located internally in a room, then it must have 24/7 staffing to provide quick and easy access for the Fire Services with directional signage to highlight its exact location. All pretty logical. But if you want to know more… https://lnkd.in/eFZdft7E Made in Britain - official Business News Wales Manufacturing Wales Secured by Design NBS #firesafety #ukhousing #londonhousing #manchesterhousing #socialhousing #sib #housingassociations #carehomesuk #hrrb #highrisebuildings #highriskbuildings

Peace River, AB – The Town of Peace River is thrilled to announce the purchase of a new Town Hall building, marking a significant step toward enhancing the accessibility, fiscal efficiency, and overall functionality of our municipal services. Our beloved clocktower Town Hall, originally a provincial building and bank, has served as the heart of Peace River's local government for 50 years. However, its design and infrastructure have increasingly fallen short of meeting municipal needs. Key concerns include a complete lack of accessibility for differently abled residents; insufficient room to interact with and serve the public; and inadequate space to function as a proper Emergency Coordination Centre, which is vital given our region's frequent forest fires and evacuation situations. Rather than continuing to invest in costly renovations over the coming years to bring the old building up to standard, the decision to purchase a new facility represents a proactive and fiscally prudent choice. This investment ensures that our town's resources are used efficiently and effectively, securing the best possible outcome for the long-term future of Peace River. In seeking a new building, we made a commitment to remain centrally located for ease of accessibility. The new building, located on Main Street just a block north from our current location, was originally built for the provincial government and is set up to suit the needs of our community far better than our current one. The new Town Hall will be fully accessible, ensuring that all residents, regardless of their mobility needs, can engage with their local government. As it stands, residents in wheelchairs cannot even attend Council meetings in person. Importantly, the new building will be able to serve as a robust Emergency Coordination Centre, better preparing us to respond swiftly and effectively to any crises that arise. This capacity is crucial for our community given the increasing demand for coordinated responses to regional emergencies. The new Town Hall represents a critical investment in the future of Peace River, ensuring that our town has the capacity and infrastructure to serve our citizens effectively, both now and in the years to come. The Town took possession of the new building July 31, 2024. The purchase price was $1.05 million and the building is located at 9715 100 ST. Plans to move in are tentatively scheduled for early 2025. Once upon a time in the bustling city of Linkedville, a community center faced a significant challenge—ensuring the safety of its residents. The solution came in the form of Sehgal Fire Doors, renowned for their unparalleled fire-resistant qualities. As the doors were installed throughout the building, a sense of security enveloped the community. Residents could now go about their daily activities with peace of mind, knowing that in the face of adversity, Sehgal Fire Doors stood as guardians. One fateful night, a small electrical malfunction sparked a fire in the building's basement. The alarm rang out, waking the residents to the urgency of the situation. Swiftly and safely, everyone made their way to the exit points, guided by the glow of Sehgal Fire Doors. The fire raged, but the doors held steadfast, containing the flames and preventing their spread. Emergency services marveled at the effectiveness of Sehgal Fire Doors, ensuring a controlled evacuation and minimizing damage. In the aftermath, the community celebrated not only the preservation of their property but, more importantly, the preservation of lives. Sehgal Fire Doors had proven their worth, creating a haven where safety was not just a promise but a tangible reality. Linkedville became a shining example of how investing in Sehgal Fire Doors could transform fear into confidence, vulnerability into resilience. The short story of the community center echoed through the city, reinforcing the notion that when it comes to safety, Sehgal Fire Doors are not just doors—they are guardians of peace and assurance. #sehgaldoors

Rightly so we are fixated on Sustainability. Too often the main focus is on the environmental aspects of ESG. As Tamae illustrates in this example, the S or Social in ESG is vitally important and remedying the poor practices of the past is essential in ensuring we create thriving and connected cities and communities.

Congratulations to the Chester Economic Development Authority, one of our esteemed #ThrivingCommunities. Through a collaborative effort with Delaware County and Pennsylvania DOT, their Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods grant application was selected for planning funds to undertake essential preliminary engineering and final design work. The focus of this project is to implement a road diet, traffic calming measures, and develop the East Coast Greenway along State Route 291. Currently, residents in Chester face numerous barriers that have isolated their community and created unsafe conditions when attempting to traverse the city. These barriers include multiple rail lines, I-95, and Pennsylvania State Route 291. Route 291, often referred to as Second Street or "a highway through a community", has posed challenges for Chester, a predominantly Black or African American city in Delaware County, southeastern Pennsylvania. Within a block of Route 291, nearly 40% of households in Chester do not have access to a vehicle, and 45% of these families are living below the poverty line. The proposed project aims to create opportunities for safe crossings over Route 291, facilitating access to recreational facilities and amenities along the Riverfront. These include the sports complex, the Riverwalk, Harrah's Casino, and Barry Bridge Park. By implementing these vital improvements, the project will significantly enhance the #qualityoflife for all residents, fostering a more equitable and inclusive community. Our Team ( The Ray Highway, Arcadis, InfraStrategies LLC, and Beverly A. Scott, Ph.D. ) was proud to support you on this initiative through the #USDOT Thriving Communities program. #bettertogether #transportation #mobility #equity #bridgingthegap #connectivity

In 2023, The Vermont Legislature capped minimum parking requirements that municipalities can impose on new housing, state-wide, at 1 per dwelling unit in areas with water & sewer access and 1.5 per dwelling unit elsewhere. Meanwhile, in many communities very close to Boston, 2 to 1 minimum parking requirements still exist, driving up the costs to build and, in many cases, making it impossible to build on most infill lots where we should be incentivizing development. If Massachusetts is serious about addressing our housing shortage, we have to address the archaic and extreme minimum parking requirements placed on new development today.
