Miao Zheng is a graduate student at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, where she focuses on foundational biological research. With a strong passion for longevity medicine, Miao joined the Longevity Education Hub in 2022 and has been instrumental in translating and promoting Chinese courses, making the Hub’s content more accessible to Chinese-speaking audiences. Miao dedication to the field of longevity medicine and her expertise in basic biological research make her a valuable contributor to the Hub’s mission of educating and advancing the understanding of healthy aging and longevity.

I am excited to share my poster presentation on Exploring the Relationship Between Stress and Acylated Ghrelin in Response to Exercise in Adults during Drexel University's Pennoni Honors College Week of Undergraduate Excellence Poster Session. I have been a part of the College of Nursing and Health Professions Clinical Exercise Physiology Lab under the direction of Dr. Michael Bruneau, specifically focusing on the effect of exercise on our appetite regulating hormones to provide informed interventions in mitigating weight management. We are continuing to research High Intensity Interval Training and its chronic effect in decreasing appetite hormones, such as acylated ghrelin, and influencing perceived hunger. This research can be beneficial in changing the stigma of weight management. Rather than navigating multiple decisions surrounding meals throughout the day, this approach narrows it down to one deliberate choice, engaging in daily exercise, which can foster a simpler lifestyle change when navigating weight management. https://lnkd.in/e-MAm9xF

Science may not always jive with stories relating to the Afterlife, so it’s encouraging to see the scientific community moving forward in this area. I just read this cool article about how a multidisciplinary group of scientists has released a new consensus statement on death research. 🧬 Featured in the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, this publication marks the first peer-reviewed statement dedicated to the scientific exploration of death. Its purpose is to offer insights into possible mechanisms, address ethical considerations, outline methodological approaches for systematic study, and highlight key debates and challenges in this area of research. This is a great step for further studies regarding the Afterlife because, with the advances in modern science and medical resuscitation, it’s been becoming less clear when the body is actually, irrevocably dead. #Day13 On Day 13, we highlight Integrating Learning and Hummingbird Medicine to Heal Academic Harm by Elizabeth Mendoza, Adria Padilla-Chávez, Beatriz Salazar Medina , and A. Susan Jurow. This article presents Hummingbird Medicine, a decolonial framework rooted in Indigenous knowledge systems, as a means to heal harm caused by traditional academic practices. Drawing on collaborative storytelling and relational pedagogy, the authors explore how educators can foster healing and transformation in academic spaces that have historically marginalized and silenced Global Majority voices. Key contributions include: • A detailed explanation of Hummingbird Medicine as a metaphor for resilience, regeneration, and the transformative power of care in education. • An exploration of relational pedagogies that center empathy, reciprocity, and healing in academic practices. • Practical strategies for integrating Indigenous knowledge systems into teaching, learning, and community-building within academic contexts. The appendices in the issue’s introduction enrich this discussion by offering conceptual tools on the Intimacies of Violence, Resistance and Liberation, and Hope and Healing. These frameworks provide a broader lens to understand how academic harm can be addressed through decolonial and relational approaches.
