It's Spring Equinox! Today the light and the dark of the day are equal, and in the northern hemisphere, this time is often a time when people plant new seeds to harvest later. Spring has always been my favorite time of year. In Texas where I grew up, it's wildflower season, and the roadsides are covered with dots of vibrant color that look like something George Seurat would paint. It's Rodeo season and you can go see animals be born into the world. Birds are emerging from nests as they break through their eggs. The world feels like it is teeming with life after the quiet of winter. As we enter this spring, I'm thinking about what I want to plant to bring to the world. I'm hoping I can continue to find people who want to transform their workplaces. I believe we can change how people work together. I believe its possible to create workplaces where everyone can thrive. I believe we can unlearn ways of managing and leading that are dominating and controlling. I believe we can learn to lead and manage in liberatory ways. I know breaking with traditional ways of working isn't for every organization but I hope the people who do want to do this work can find each other. What an extraordinary day of firsts it turned out to be. I’m immensely proud to have continued the judging process for the new Trailblazer Award today, alongside my fellow judges Hollie Whittles from Purple Frog Systems Ltd and Michael Wright from Aico, for the upcoming #SBAwards, put on by Shropshire Chamber of Commerce. We encountered four remarkable businesses, each surpassing expectations and embodying the essence of the award. Their distinctive attributes truly set them apart. It was great to discover that three out of the four finalists were situated within 2 miles of each other, with some even collaborating. Among the highlights of the day were, throwback to some vintage tech from Preloved Tech Ltd and their links to Icehocky, exploring exiting new premises at Exascale and moving a cherry picker for a picture, to testing equipment and implementing barcoding for product traceability at CEL Group and finally, experiencing a live demonstration of stud seaman harvesting at Stallion AI Services……Yes, you read that correctly – it certainly made for an eventful day! A common thread among all four finalists was their passion. This contributed to the diligent deliberation and number-crunching that followed. Each participant has already become a winner by making it this far. My key takeaway? Vic's relationship with us dates back even further, initially serving as Operations Manager from 2008 to 2012 and having worked closely with our Managing Director, Ian Cramb FCILT, for over 25 years. After a brief hiatus up North, Vic's return in 2019 has been nothing short of transformative. Ian Cramb had this to say about Vic: “Bringing Vic back into the X2 (UK) business was a fundamentally important part of our strategic plan to invest in people, processes, controls, and systems to turn what was a good business, into a great business. This has been achieved at all levels, despite the economic challenges that none of us could have predicted. Not only have we doubled in size since Vic joined, but we also have a tremendous platform to take advantage of the significant uplift in customers looking for our services in 2024. Vic is a consummate transport professional with a wealth of knowledge and diverse experience, but he is also great to work with and has a wicked sense of humour, which often is very welcome in a high-pressured transport environment!” Under Vic's leadership, we've navigated through unprecedented challenges, including Brexit, the global pandemic, and industry-wide driver shortages. Through it all, Vic's strategic foresight and unwavering commitment has been instrumental in X2 (UK) seeing steady growth, doubling our revenue over the last 5 years. When asked about his last five years, Vic said “It has been a challenging 5 years, especially with the impact of Brexit, COVID and the associated difficulties within the supply chain. Initially there was a downturn in activity, but our business model meant we could quickly adapt to the ever-changing environment. With the drive and commitment from the team, we have steered through these difficult times and have seen significant growth of the business.” As we celebrate this milestone, we extend our deepest gratitude to Vic for his dedication and leadership.
