Tove Bruvik Westberg, Ambassador of Norway in Portugal explains that Norway has many companies committed to the green transition in the sectors of carbon capture storage, batteries for electric vehicles, and hydrogen. She suggests that collaboration, political commitment, and cross border regulatory framework amongst countries is vital when scaling up projects and fostering big investment. Speaking in a Lisbon Energy Summit & Exhibition 2023 interview, she said "a cross-board regulatory framework is of utmost importance to foster large scale investments, particularly carbon capture and storage, where it is vital that we have a cross-board framework in place to enable us to capture and store in different places – and Norway is at the forefront of this. The industry needs large-scale investments and political commitments, which Norway is also communicating". 🚀 Monday Update: A new week, new challenges, and tremendous opportunities! 🌱 1️⃣ Grupa Polsat Plus is accelerating the development of hydrogen infrastructure in Poland! They plan to build five new hydrogen refueling stations located along the main routes of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). Thanks to funding from the European Climate, Infrastructure, and Environment Executive Agency, PAK-PCE Biopaliwa i Wodór and PAK-PCE Stacje H2 will be able to carry out this ambitious project, which also includes the production of green hydrogen with a capacity of 5 MW. 💧🔋 2️⃣ Energy costs in Poland remain a challenge. According to data from the European Commission, in Q1 2024, Poland ranked among the countries with the highest electricity prices (€82/MWh). In comparison, in Germany, the price was €68/MWh, and in the Czech Republic, it was €72/MWh. On the other hand, residents of Portugal and Spain enjoyed the lowest electricity prices (€44 and €45/MWh, respectively). 🔌💡 3️⃣ Lower Silesia is investing in renewable energy! Local governments, housing associations, and energy communities can apply for funding to build and expand renewable energy installations. The "European Funds for Lower Silesia 2021-2027" program has a budget exceeding PLN 28 million. Applications can be submitted until September 12, 2024. This is a great opportunity to focus on green energy and innovation! 🌞🌍 Wishing everyone an inspiring and successful week! 💪 #SustainableDevelopment #RenewableEnergy #Innovation #EnergySector #Hydrogen #EuropeanFunds

🚀 Nearly 100 people came together last Friday from Madrid, London, Brussels, Berlin, and even Silicon Valley to witness the inauguration of our first commercial plant in Extremadura, Spain. As the Co-Founder and CEO of Turn2X, I am filled with an overwhelming sense of pride and gratitude as I reflect on this moment. This event wasn't just about unveiling a new plant; it was about showing what’s possible when people come together with a singular focus on creating a better future for our world. Our plant uses electrolyzers to produce green hydrogen and then combine it with CO2 to create Renewable Natural Gas (RNG). Renewable natural gas is CO2-neutral and drop-in ready into the existing natural gas grid infrastructure which means we can inject in Miajadas at our plant and can deliver the RNG to any place connected to the European gas grid The plant was set up in less than 6 months, received no subsidies in Spain, and is still profitable. On top of that, the technology is modular, meaning we can build many, many more of these plants all across Spain in very little time. Our vision is big: We will reach cost parity with fossil fuel natural gas prices and produce the equivalent of 20% of Spanish gas demand in the next 5-10 years. If you want to join us on that mission let me know! Special shoutout to the people of Extremadura, without whom this project would not have been possible. Stay tuned for projects we have in the pipeline! #sustainability #renewableenergy #launchevent

Yesterday the Energy Forum organized by the Norwegian Embassy in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy took place. It's very encouraging to see how much interest & desire for collaboration there is from the Nordic countries within the field of sustainable energy production in Romania. The main topics of the event were Offshore Wind, Green Hydrogen, Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage and Geothermal Heating and Cooling Systems. It was a good opportunity to see experienced and emerging companies presenting their innovative solutions to today's sustainability struggles within the industry. Whether it's energy production, transportation, manufacturing, chemical engineering, there is always place for collaboration when it comes to finding more sustainable solutions that are also financially viable. Speaking about the financial aspect, it was also a good opportunity to hear more about the financing solutions that are currently available both from the Romanian government and from the Norwegian funds. With this kind of initiatives you get the feeling that we might just be able to reach our climate targets. #sustainability #cleanenergy #renewableenergy #greenhydrogen #sustainabledevelopment

Very much looking forward to attending Africa Energy Forum #AEF24 in Barcelona this week with ERM colleagues, working alongside developers, investors, and governments to promote renewables growth on the continent. There was a timely discussion in The Economist this week of the ‘Dawn of the Solar Age’, including the ongoing ‘revolution in solar power' in Africa. A few key points made, showcasing the opportunity but potential obstacles to green growth in Africa: • 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲: it is now ten times larger than it was a decade ago and will be ten times larger again in 2034. By then, solar will likely be the main source of electricity globally, and by the 2040s it could be the largest source of all energy. • 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐩. While inflation-adjusted costs of coal, oil, and natural gas have remained broadly level over their history, since the 1960s the levelised cost of solar energy has dropped by a factor of 1,000, and continues to fall. • 𝐈𝐧 𝐢𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐬, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐬 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚. To date, solar growth has been driven by relatively unsunny countries, notably in northern Europe. The global south has a lot of empty land, better access to sunshine and much more unmet demand. • 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝟏% 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲. One barrier to a broader roll-out is financing: political and regulatory uncertainty lowers investor confidence, which drives up prices and dissuades developers. Another problem is the parlous state of the continent’s electricity grids. • 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭, 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫’𝐬 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟𝐟-𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. Internationally, most solar is built by utilities companies, but atypically in Africa two-thirds of new capacity comes from private firms contracting directly from developers. • 𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬, 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐬 𝐍𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐚’𝐬, 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 𝐛𝐲 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐬’ 𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐝. But others are seen as operating convoluted and inconsistent regulatory frameworks, slowing investment. https://lnkd.in/ex8aVK7Y https://lnkd.in/eJQSV-Aa https://lnkd.in/eFqskii2 Dieter Nigel Ulrike Maria Cristina Pieterjan Joseph
