Keep it simple! 💡 My favorite excites and connects the target with the brand without a celebrity, a special effect, or a joke. With the ad "Well Said," Disney+ diverged from other brands by releasing a surprise 30-second ad during the fourth quarter of #superbowl, displaying a list of its popular phrases in black text on a white screen. The brand presented a commercial that features phrases such as "To infinity and beyond," "Ohana means family," and "Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi," with Disney+ aiming to showcase the best stories from the worlds of Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic. Will the Force awaken? #excusethepuns First, FACT! 🐭 The Disney Channel flexed ~2m average daily primetime viewers in 2014, but dwindled to 132k in 2023. 📊 YouTube captures 23.3% of TV viewing among children ages 2-11, followed by Netflix at 13.7% and Disney+ at 7.6%. 🍈 “Cocomelon” (Moonbug Entertainment) began as a YouTube channel, and still has 178m subscribers on the platform, while the Disney Channel has 9.1m Conclusion: ⏳ Kids are consuming media on streaming services as the algorithms serve up an endless supply of tailored content.… but not Disney+. And most of you are closing your eyes, waiting for 'the Mouse' to turn this around... but all Disney is doing is leaning into the demo that still believes in [the Disney] magic to show you higher numbers: 📉 In 2022, 60%+ of its Disney+ subscribers were ADULTS without children at home (mostly #Marvel and #StarWars fans). What if you took this strategy and applied it to yourself? We assume strategies like this are just for products and things. IMO the coolest, most upgradeable, most full-of-hidden-potential product is Your Future Time. So imagine now you need a new job, or you got a big promotion, or you want to share a major professional milestone. What if you borrowed this approach? Find 5-6 awesomely unique people in your network. And craft a connected story with them. A connected story that amplifies them (like Pixar, Nat Geo etc) And amplifies you. Resulting in a win for everyone. Not just you. Disney gave us all a master class on wielding power. And remind us that magic power happens together.

Did Disney 'Let it Go', Literally? Disney+ may have a lot of magic, but it seems like they can't cast a spell on the grown-ups who pay the bills. After all, it's the adults who control the remote and want to Netflix and Chill. Still thinking about the Disney Super Bowl ad from last night. It's remarkable how their brand voice resonated through simplicity, evoking powerful emotions and memories. This ad brilliantly showcases the profound impact a carefully crafted brand message can have on storytelling and audience engagement. With just a simple black font against a neutral background, Disney didn't just announce the streaming of the Taylor Swift Eras doc (although they did it wonderfully). They effectively tapped into our collective nostalgia, reinforcing their timeless connection with audiences. This Disney social campaign for the launch of Disney+ was incredible. They hit, in my opinion, every fandom's sentiment in one set of tweets. Here are a few key takeaways: Know your audience: Disney understands what its fans love about each property and uses that knowledge effectively. Have a personality: Each Disney IP collection's Twitter account matched the characters' personalities from their respective media, making the tweets feel authentic and reflective of the characters. Tell a story: Disney used this campaign to announce Disney+, narrating how all its video content is moving to their new platform. They used plot points that reflected each IP collection perfectly, and the conversational format was brilliant. Keep it simple: This wasn’t a paid campaign. It was a simple Twitter thread with no fancy media, just screenshots. They told the story where their audience would see it and let it spread organically. Watched all 62 SuperBowl commercials today. No, I'm not going to do another typical analysis on how most ads had a celebrity factor, leaned on either comedy, suspense or outrageousness, had substantial budgets to even be on air, or in just a few cases, tried to push a real, purpose-driven message. Instead, I'm just going to tell you which was my favourite of the lot, and why. The best commercial, in my opinion, was Disney+'s "Well Said". https://lnkd.in/dEUQUYpC It was minimalist, real, and insightful, and dug up so many memories, I could almost hear each line. What was a relatively clean organization of Brands in Disney+ now has a carousel which is so confusing and abstract it devalues the other content. Disney+ to most was an experience where they could follow Brands they love like Star Wars, Marvel or Pixar. That experience is now full of streaming TV noise, American Idol, American Horror Strory, Shogun, Greys Anatomy. It’s like all of the audience segments turn up in one cacophonous room. Each show vying for the customers attention. This is the opposite of The Walt Disney Companys physical experiences The Walt Disney Studios is not Hulu - Disney+ can be a space where Hulu turns up, but it can’t be the loudest voice. #brandstrategy, #brandarchitecture, #infomationarchitecture
