Andrea Applegate 🍏 and I came together three years ago out of a shared passion for making workplaces better. My specific concern was helping businesses to be more successful with engaging, retaining, and advancing their low wage workers, so people could build better lives for themselves. I was tired of seeing people cycle back throught the workforce system, earning less and less desirable resumes along the way. It was a challenge to figure out how and why businesses would also be interested, but I knew it had to be. Because workers do their best. It needs to be a joint effort. I have been so pleasantly surprised by how open executives and associations have been to figure out a better way. Results of the pandemic have made them even more so. This year, we've begun bringing Ruby Payne's Bridges out of Poverty to businesses. We have deepened our understanding of what people need for psychological safety...and what they don't need. It is imperitive that we overcome workplace barriers. Three years ago I thought it would be difficult for many executives to see this. Now I think it is difficult to find one who doesn't. I'm grateful for the opportunity to work have these conversations, to work with you in your businesses, and to roll up our sleeves and learn together.
